Interior CS Fred Matiang'i Declares War on Drunk-Driving

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has declared war on drunk-driving, warning that motorists found steering vehicles while drunk will face the consequences.

Matiang'i says police officers have been deployed across the country at night as well as during the day to nab those driving under the influence of alcohol.

“We will not joke with anyone and let our people perish. We are doing everything possible to deal with drunk-driving and those who will be caught will face the consequences. Let us celebrate this Christmas in peace and avoid careless accidents,” says Matiang'i.

His sentiments come a day after seven drunk drivers were arrested and their licenses suspended for up to two years.

Last week, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet launched daytime alco-blow tests to nab those driving under the influence of alcohol during the day. More than 500 motorists have since been arrested in the operation.

CS Matiang'i has also assured Kenyans and tourists of their safety during this festive season.

“Our country is secure and safe. We have one or two incidences that are basic penal code challenges which we are addressing them. As our people are traveling far and wide during this festive season, we have enough resources to protect them,” notes Matiang'i.
