A Nakuru woman has refused to occupy a house built for her on President Kenyatta's order.
During a function in Nakuru in 2014, President Kenyatta ordered his officers to build a decent house for Damaris Wambui Kamau after her son, Dennis Ngaruiya entertained him.
Ngaruiya cracked President Kenyatta’s ribs with a thrilling poem during the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Day celebrations at the Lanet military barracks.
To appreciate Ngaruiya, Kenyatta asked an officer only identified as Mr. Wanjohi to ensure the family had a decent home.
“This is a big joke. Look at this house. It has cracks on the outside and looks like a semi-permanent house while President Kenyatta in his wisdom meant well for us as a family,” says Ms. Kamau who has refused to occupy the house.
“Why is that officer at State House playing tricks on me and my son. One day President Uhuru Kenyatta will know these tricks.”
When contacted by the Daily Nation over the matter, State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena noted that the house was "well-furnished."
“From the information I am gathering, the house was built and it is furnished but the lady claims the house was made of waste papers. I don’t understand what she meant by that,” says Dena.
“What was agreed upon when the family met the President at State House has been delivered. What is missing is cutlery and mattresses which will be procured.”
“Why this family is not living in the house is what I don’t understand. It is only Ms. Kamau who can explain to us why she is not occupying the house."
The house located in Murunyu area in Bahati is connected with electricity and water but is overgrown with bushes.
Ms. Kamau says she had identified a plot of land in a relatively good location in the area but the State House officials rejected her proposal.
She claims that the house she's being asked to move in is old and was previously occupied by another person.
“When they bought this plot they did not involve me. They bought it and called me to occupy the house but I rejected it,” she says.
She currently lives with her family in a rented mud house in Lanet area.
“Mr. President wanted to leave a memorable mark in the life of my son and I don’t think he meant such shoddy work,” She notes.

My curious question: How much did the House cost; or what do Financial records show?
The house is Sinking and Leaning on one Side. Just look at the Black skirting paint.
What would have been memorable to the youth, and mom is to have been invited as special guests at the presidential palace for aweek dining, and wining with the dignitaries.
The house looks moldy for sure. This can endanger the lives of this family. Surely! Even a dam can see that.
Return of the Moi era or even medieval ages where someone cracks up the King and the king grants them some better life. We need to move away from this because it is a waste of tax payers money. Uhuru should have helped to promote the young man's talent instead. This woman should sell the property and move on.
Genius observation.👍
Pesa imekuliwa na vimenyi was state house
I very think so to.
A promise is always a debt and the sharks around the president including Kenze Ndena should explain what happened. Surprised Kanze who was born in abject poverty has forgotten where she came from. She needs to do her research before blabbing what she does not know to the press. Was she not a journalist at one point?
Has Uhuru seen this insult? looks like a car garage. My be the real house was built somewhere else for somebody else. Corruption Mises no opportunity- it's fast and furious.
A car garage? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Well as the mother complains about the hse she should first thank the president for the free land n the house. If this mother knew how many r struggling paying mortgages she will watch her mouth first juu she is not going to be a slave in mortgages??But having said that it's good the prezzo knows if this is the hse he approved juu the cash mite have bin stollen.I could have build a nice hse than that using bricks or mabati???
You simply don't get it. This woman does not want to move out of the slums where she can sell changaa and do other things. This kind of resistance is not new whenever authorities try to move people from shanties. Remember the boy was also promised free primary, secondary and university education if he qualified. Does all this mean nothing to the mother? So what to do? Let the house and the land on which it stands be held in trust for the boy until he is eighteen years. Meanwhile, wacheni mama aendelee na biashara zake za kawaida huko ghetto.
The windows are like seesaw the kids swing on. The window on the left side is about to touch the ground while the window on the right side is up the on the sky. This is a joke.
