Ann Mwangi Elected University of Nairobi's First Ever Female Students Union Chairperson

Ann Mwangi Mvurya has been elected as the new chairperson of the University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA).

The third-year law student becomes the first female student to be elected to the Chairperson seat in the university's history.

Ms. Mwangi floored two other male candidates; Samuel Ayoma and Ertiman Oile, to clinch the seat.

She takes over from Antony Manyara who held the powerful seat for the last one year.

The 24-year-old has received congratulatory messages from Vice-Chancellor Peter Mbithi and other Kenyan leaders.

“Congratulations! Anne Mwangi becomes the first University of Nairobi [female]Student Leader, after nearly 50 years in existence. SONU has since been rebranded to UNSA,” Prof. Mbithi tweets.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko says: “My compliments to my sister and friend Ann Mwangi Mvuria for being elected as the Chairperson of the University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA)."

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru tweets: "Celebrating another First for Women in Leadership in Kenya. Congratulations to Anne Mwangi Mvurya on being elected the 1st female chair of the University of Nairobi Student Association. We are proud of your victory."
