Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei Arrested for Making Inflammatory Remarks Against DP Ruto’s Critics

Detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday arrested Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei.

Senator Cherargei was arrested at his home in Elgon View Estate in Eldoret, Uasin-Gishu County over allegations of making inciting remarks.

His arrest comes after a video of him warning Deputy President William Ruto’s critics of unspecified consequences if they continued insulting him emerged.

He is alleged to have made the remarks during the funeral of the late teacher Dominic Kiptoo Choge at Lelwak in O’lessos.

Cherargei warned that supporters of DP Ruto were “marking and profiling” those opposed to his 2022 presidential bid and were prepared to take action.

DCI had on Monday summoned the politician for questioning over remarks that are considered inflammatory but he failed to appear.

On Tuesday, DCI sleuths camped outside his home for hours before he was apprehended and driven to Eldoret Central Police Station.
