Uhuru Extends Dusk-to-Dawn Curfew by 21 More Days

Kenya’s countrywide dusk-to-dawn curfew has been extended by a further 21 days, President Kenyatta has said.
Addressing the nation from State House on Saturday, Kenyatta also announced the ban on movement of people into and out of Nairobi metropolitan area and the counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale has been extended by 21 more days.
Uhuru said these is part of a raft of new measures the government has put in place to contain the spread of Covid-19 disease in the country. The initial 21-day curfew, which ran from 7 pm to 5 am, expired on Saturday, April 25th.
In addition, Uhuru said the government will roll out a 30-day hygiene program that will initially employ a workforce of 26,148 people, which will gradually grow to over 100,000 youth across the country.
He appealed to Kenyans to remain disciplined and adhere to the government's directives on combating the virus.
“I want to be categorical and re-emphasize that I will not delay in de-escalating the measures that I am announcing today the moment our experts, because it is they in whom we should trust, inform us that the risks have reduced significantly on the basis of how we, as governments – national and counties – and also as individual citizens shall respond to the directions that are given by our experts,” said Uhuru.
Kenya has so far confirmed 343 cases of Covid-19, 14 fatalities, and 98 recoveries.
