Gunmen Rob Four Adjacent MPesa Shops Sh1.3 Million in Nairobi

Police in Nairobi have opened an investigation following a series of robberies targeting MPesa shops.

Armed robbers on Thursday morning raided four MPesa shops within the Kamukunji area in Nairobi and made away with a total of Sh1.3 million, according to police reports.

Police said the affected MPesa shops are adjacent to each other and are located less than two kilometers from Shauri Moyo police station.

The raids occurred at around 5:30 am when most MPesa agents in the area open their shops to serve second-hand clothes and shoes dealers. The robbers stole Sh240,000 from the first shop, Sh300,000 from the second shop while the third shop lost Sh800,000.

Police said the suspects pointed pistols at the victims and ordered them to surrender all the money before they fled to the Majengo slum. No one was injured during the incidents.

A recent report from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (Kebs) revealed that 6,686 crimes were reported to police in Nairobi alone in 202, the highest in the country. Kiambu County was second with 5,715 cases followed by Meru (5,032), Nakuru (4,281) and Machakos (3,275).
