Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto Airlifted to Nairobi for Treatment

Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto is currently admitted at Nairobi Hospital where he has been undergoing treatment for acute flu.

Ruto, who is seeking to recapture the Bomet governor’s seat on a Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party ticket, was airlifted to the capital for medical attention on Tuesday afternoon.

In a statement, Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) secretary-general Albert Kochei said Ruto had been unwell for about a week before his condition worsened, leading to his hospitalization.

While thanking Amref Flying Doctors for their swift response, Kochei assured supporters that the veteran politician will soon be back on his feet.

“I wish to notify the members of the public that Isaac Kiprono Ruto fell ill on Tuesday 9th August 2022 and was airlifted to Nairobi Hospital by Amref Flying Doctors. Isaac Ruto had been unwell for the past one week due to acute flu which necessitated immediate evacuation from Bomet for thorough medical attention,” stated Kochei.

“The doctor's report indicates that he is on a road to recovery and we expect him to be discharged anytime from today. Isaac Ruto, regrets that he is not able to be with his supporters during this crucial moment of vote counting. He wishes to assure them that he will be back soon.”

Ruto is facing off with incumbent Governor Hillary Barchok (UDA) and Benard Mutai (ANC) for the Bomet gubernatorial seat.
