“Mumecheza Kama Nyinyi!” Ruto Celebrates Kenya’s Win Over Morocco

Kenya's Harambee Stars have advanced to the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a stunning 1-0 victory over Morocco on Sunday at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The win, secured against the two-time champions and tournament favourites, marks a significant milestone for Kenyan football and national pride. Ryan Ogam's decisive goal in the 42nd minute propelled Kenya past the North African giants. The match was fraught with challenges for the hosts, who played much of the game with ten men after Chrispine Erambo's dismissal following a VAR review just before half-time.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Harambee Stars demonstrated tactical discipline and defensive resilience under the guidance of their head coach McCarthy. President William Ruto, a vocal supporter of the team, lauded the Harambee Stars for their tenacity and triumph. In a statement released after the match, he hailed the win as evidence of Kenya's "indomitable spirit," noting their success against a major African football power.
"Kenya is rising," he said. "We are conquering arenas where no one thought we could stand, let alone triumph."
The President has confirmed that the financial incentives he pledged to the squad would be honoured. He had previously promised Sh1 million to each player for every win and Sh500,000 for a draw. Following Sunday's result, he humorously added, "Mumecheza kama nyinyi. Sasa nitacheza kama mimi!"
The victory not only secures Kenya's progression in the tournament but also galvanises national pride. With one group match remaining against Zambia, the Harambee Stars aim to build on their momentum and deepen their impact on the continental stage.
