20 African Leaders to Attend Ruto’s Inauguration

Preparations for President-elect William Ruto’s inauguration as the fifth president of the Republic of Kenya are in top gear.

At least 20 African heads of state and governments have confirmed their attendance at Ruto’s inauguration scheduled for Tuesday, according to The Standard.

On Saturday, the Assumption of Office Committee inspected the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, with Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho confirming that the venue will be ready by Sunday 6 p.m.

“We will have all the protocols associated with visiting Heads of States ready by Foreign Affairs and KDF and all people concerned with the arrival of dignitaries,” Kibicho is quoted by The Standard.

Some of the African leaders expected to attend the ceremony include President Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), South Sudan’s Salva Kiir, and Somali’s Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Dignitaries from the African Union (AU), Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), European Union (EU), the United Kingdom, United States, China, India and Russia have been also invited.

“We are satisfied, we have no doubt that we will have a very colorful ceremony on Tuesday and we have given it all it takes to make our country proud,” said Kibicho.

According to the law, the swearing-in ceremony must take place any time between the hours of 10 a.m and 2 pm.

Ruto will be the first to be sworn in, followed by Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua.
