Uganda’s High Commissioner to Kenya Hassan Wasswa Galiwango has died in Nairobi after a short illness.

Wasswa, who doubled up as Uganda′s High Commissioner to Seychelles, passed away while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

His death was confirmed by Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of EAC Rebecca Kadaga on Monday.

“I have received the sad news of the death of Hassan Galiwango, our Ambassador to the Republic of Kenya. On behalf of @GovUganda, I send our deepest condolences to his family, the NRM party and Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Kedaga tweeted.

The deceased was the husband of Ugandan MP Connie Galiwango Nakayenze.

Reports indicate that Wasswa was airlifted to Nairobi Hospital after falling sick three days ago.

Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Alfred Mutua also sent his condolences to the family.

“My condolences to the President, Government and the people of Uganda on the passing of Ugandan High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr. Hassan Wasswa Galiwango, who passed away this morning in Nairobi Hospital. My deepest sympathies to his family. Rest In Peace Ndugu,” Mutua tweeted.
