Mau Mau freedom fighter Field Marshal Mary Muthoni wa Kirima has thanked former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta for buying her a house and clearing a bank loan of Sh4.7 million.
On Thursday, Muthoni and her family visited Mama Ngina to express their gratitude for the kindness she and her family have extended to her.
Muthoni gave Mama Ngina many gifts including goats, pot, a three-legged stool, a traditional tray, a kiondo (African basket), and food from her shamba.
The 93-year-old also thanked the former first lady for accepting to travel to Nyeri in April last year to shave her dreadlocks, which she kept for over 70 years. The shaving symbolized the fulfillment of the freedom she fought for in the 1950s.
Speaking during the event at her Muthaiga home, Mama Ngina said the dreadlocks cut from Field Marshal Muthoni will be taken to the museum to act as a reminder of the sacrifices some Kenyans made for the country’s liberation.
"Now you see for yourself the people who were in the forest fighting for this country because nowadays people pretend to know a lot… We have done a lot for this country," Mama Ngina said.
Muthoni, the only woman to have attained the Mau Mau rank of field marshal, joined the group as a spy when she was 20 years old and also helped supply the fighters with food.
Despite already risking her life for the cause of freedom, Muthoni wished to do more and thus became a soldier and attained the rank of field marshal. Due to the extreme conditions she was living in the forest, including harsh weather, Muthoni had two miscarriages which left her unable to have children.

Kenya is a modern animal farm. Why did some Mau Mau benefit yet others continue to lavish in poverty.Others stole so much that to lessen their guilt they offer or should I say give a little to help those who have nothing 🤲🏿peanuts more like mockery. That is part of the pension you continue to enjoy that you are handing out ati sympathy Have mercy on the regular tax payer now we are paying for you plus your son how much have you as a family cost Kenya and is it a wonder there is no money to pay civil servants
After six decades of greed and gluttony this family now trying to put up a show of philanthropy after the shock of realizing that the people they took for granted for so long have rejected them. Who's fooling who?
Useless Kenyatta thieves families.Where has she bin all this years this lady have bin crying for help??Am very sure this Kenyattas knows where dedan kimathi was buried??If it was my mum hio shamba na nyumba wangerudi nazo juu why bring them when my mum is 93 old fragile to grave.Bure bure kabisa to this mama ngina
This is a great sign that in the last days the Kenyattas and others will pay back what they stole. Illegal accumulation of land and resources amidst poverty isn't sustainable and will be cured.
Talking of being a mean woman?.. please , talk to her former immediate personal driver who is a US resident now..hata change ya sukari Ngina would ask to be given back..she was a really bitch as Babu of embakasi called her
People are always gullible and used by the elites!!! Where was she since independence??? Her old husband was busy eliminating the gallant Mau Mau warriors!!!
