Former Governors Kiraitu Murungi and Samwel Ragwa Land Gov’t Jobs in Ruto’s Latest Appointments

President Ruto has appointed former governors Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) and Samwel Ragwa (Tharaka Nithi) to State agencies.

Through a Gazette Notice dated April 20th, 2023, Ruto appointed Kiraitu as the Chairperson of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK).

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I appoint Kiraitu Murungi to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya,” the gazette notice read. 

Kiraitu, who unsuccessfully defended his seat in the August 2022 general election, will head the board for three years effective from April 20th.

Kiraitu and his Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) supported Azimio leader Raila Odinga for the presidency in last year’s election.

In September 2022, Kiraitu ditched the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition and joined President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Coalition.

Ruto also appointed former Tharaka Nithi Governor Ragwa to be the Chairperson of the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and former Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The president also named Prof. Kimathi Mbogori Kigatiira the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute.

Richard Cheruiyot and Godfrey Lemiso have been appointed to be the Chairpersons of the Export Processing Zones Authority and Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation respectively for a period of three years.

2022 presidential candidate David Mwaure Waihiga has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Environment Trust Fund for a period of three years.
