President Ruto has pleaded with Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga to call off the planned protests, saying they will further hurt the country’s economy.
The president urged opposition leaders to instead engage the government in constructive dialogue in addressing their grievances.
“I want to ask those in opposition to work with the government for the sake of Kenyans. There is a need for constructive engagements to avoid unnecessary destruction of property because of demonstrations,” Ruto said.
“Leaders should not trample on the interests of millions of Kenyans while seeking their own interests.”
Terming last year’s general election a closed chapter, Ruto stated that he will not allow the opposition to cause violence and destroy people’s properties and businesses in pursuit of selfish political interests.
Speaking on Friday when he commissioned the Grain Bulk facilities at Embakasi, Nairobi, the president noted that the country was heading in the right direction, asking opposition leaders to give him time to turn around the economy.
“We will reduce taxes on property to encourage more Kenyans to be homeowners as well as taxes on gas for the green energy opportunity,” he said.
He urged private investors to pursue opportunities in Kenya’s transport, logistics, and associated sectors.
Azimio coalition announced it would resume its weekly protests on May 2nd, three weeks after they were suspended following President Ruto’s offer for a dialogue on the issues they have raised.
The opposition party accused the Kenya Kwanza government of failure to commit to holding constructive bipartisan talks.

A direct quote from Samoei:
"...Ruto stated that he will not allow the opposition to cause violence and destroy people’s properties and businesses in pursuit of selfish political interests."
Did Ndugu Raila or his followers invade the former president's farm, steal his sheep, cut down the trees, and start a fire on his land? How come you did not send the police to guard and protect his properties during the entire time of the land invasion, a period of about 24 hours?
Ndugu Samoei, we are not fools or have a "warthog" short-term memory. Please, don't take the Kenyan people for granted. Why? You campaigned non-stop for five years, ignored your immediate duties as a vice president while drawing your salary, receiving state benefits, and state security that protected you and all your properties. How come you did not extend this protection to Uhuru's land and all the properties in it?
Actions speak louder than words.
Huyu mutu rutal abused Uhuru and worked hard to destroy Uhuru’s government while inside! He should have thought about the Karma which is heavily pursuing him now to a point he has lost the control of government institutions; and the people’s voice and support.
Maandamano must go on to change the negative course Ruto is taking Kenyans. Something must give for Kenya to move on i the right direction. The only voice Kenyans have is through maandamano because rutal has failed them badly!
Ndugu Kipchirchir Samoei:
You protested against Uhuru's government non-stop for five years. Donald Trump has protested against President Joe Biden's government non-stop since he lost the election in 2020. He (Trump) still claims like Ndugu Raila that he won the election and that the election was stolen from him.
Let Raila and Trump follow your footsteps in protesting against your government non-stop for another five years.
What I can't stand from you is your habit of practicing POEMS (Practitioner Of Endless Multiple Standards).
I would like to state categorically that I neither supported you nor Raila to run for the presidency of Kenya. Why? Had Wafula Chebukati strictly followed Chapter 6 of our New Constitution, neither you nor Raila would have been allowed to run. Why? Both of you have plenty of skeletons rattling in your closets.
I can't wait for you and Ndugu Rigathi to finish your term in 2027 and go back to Sugoi to run your chicken business.
