Raila to Release Dossier on Oil Purchase 'Scandal'

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has denounced the government's oil deal as a fraudulent scheme designed to exploit Kenyans.

He has vowed to release a comprehensive report on the matter in the coming week. The accusation made is that the government authorized an unlawful inclusion of Sh30 per litre into the oil price. While speaking at a funeral in Nyakach, Kisumu, during which he was mourning the late wife of former Defense CAS and Ex-Nyakach member of parliament Peter Odoyo, Odinga claimed that the Ugandan government withdrew from the deal upon discovering its corrupt nature. The opposition leader labelled the Government-to-government agreement a sham.

To ease the burden of the cost of living, the Azimio la Umoja leader is backing a switch back to an open tender system (OTS) to oversee oil imports within the nation. He believes that this strategy could translate into meaningful cost savings for ordinary households. Odinga asserts that enshrining the OTS approach would involve entertaining submissions from a range of competing firms while awarding oil tenders only to entities that offered the most reasonable quotations. Odinga further alleges that out of the Sh217 we currently pay per litre, Sh30 is being siphoned off by specific individuals. He affirms that the legitimate amount should be Sh187.

Raila highlights that Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni had recently clarified that he would not participate in any corrupt dealings with Kenyan officials. The former Prime Minister has conveyed his discontent with the government-to-government system, labelling it as a significant fraud. He has also hinted at presenting a thorough report on this issue in the upcoming week. During the event, Raila eulogised the late Kathryne Anyango for her compassion, intellect, and unwavering commitment.

I think we should pass a bill that would stop leaders from exploiting, and politicizing funerals- Shamefully taking advantage of the gatherings who are mourning.
