Recent events in Narok town have instilled fear among its residents due to a series of unusual and brutal killings.
Over the past month, ten individuals have fallen victim to a gang employing crude weapons, with each victim bearing identical deep cuts. The assailants, who primarily target densely populated areas on the town's outskirts during nighttime hours, have left a chilling signature in the form of graffiti reading "flossin mauano" at the crime scenes. The enigmatic slogan has been observed near William Ole Ntimama Stadium and other locations throughout Narok. While its meaning remains unclear, authorities are actively investigating both the murders and the graffiti. Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia has acknowledged the situation, confirming that approximately 60 suspects have been apprehended in connection with various crimes.
The commissioner assures the public that increased police patrols and a targeted crackdown are underway to apprehend the perpetrators. The resurgence of gang activity was marked by the murder of 29-year-old surveyor Daniel Nkamasia as he returned home in the K24 estate. This incident prompted a reorganization of local law enforcement. Subsequent victims include Moses Saningo, a security guard killed at a construction site, and Hillary Leken Ololdapash, whose body was discovered on Muslim graveyard road. Three suspects have been taken into custody in response to Ololdapash's murder.
The string of killings has continued with the death of a 38-year-old female vegetable vendor near Oltalet Mall and the discovery of a 30-year-old man's body near Maasai Mara University. Both victims exhibited similar injuries, including deep cuts to the forehead. The latter case was particularly gruesome, with one of the victim's eyes reportedly removed. These incidents have sparked widespread speculation among locals, with some, including law enforcement, suggesting a potential link to cult activity.
Joshua Ole Kaputa, a representative of the Narok County Peace Association, has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the town's security personnel, citing perceived negligence in addressing the escalating violence. Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu has taken proactive measures by organizing a security meeting aimed at dividing the town into four distinct zones. This strategy is intended to facilitate more frequent and targeted police patrols to root out the violent gangs responsible for the recent spate of killings.
