What killed TikTok star Gatwiri? Autopsy Reveals Cause

The Kenyan entertainment community has been left reeling from the unexpected death of Tabitha Gatwiri, a 29-year-old content creator and social media influencer.

Gatwiri, who passed away on October 31, 2024, was found unresponsive in her home after family members became concerned about her lack of communication. An autopsy conducted at the Kenyatta University Funeral Home has revealed the cause of death as positional asphyxia accompanied by brain edema. Medical experts explain that positional asphyxia, sometimes referred to as jack-knife position, occurs when body positioning prevents adequate breathing, potentially leading to oxygen deprivation, unconsciousness, and death.

“The late Gatwiri passed on from positional asphyxia with brain edema,” the statement reads.
