Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika's Husband - Samuel Mburu - Charged with Defrauding Gov't of Sh64 Million

Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika’s husband Samuel Mburu has been charged with defrauding the government of Sh64 million in taxes.
Appearing before Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku, Mburu has pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him and has been released on a cash bail of Sh200, 000 and a bond of Sh500,000.
He is also charged with willfully refusing to answer questions by an authorized officer relating to customs entry.
Mburu has been charged alongside 14 other suspects including former Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) Managing Director Charles Ongwae.
Mburu is accused of using his company, Landmark Freight Services Limited to defraud Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) of Sh64 million in taxes.
With the help of Gendipe Enterprises and Rupai Trading Limited, Mburu's company imported goods from Dubai, which they declared to be machinery whose payable tax is between 0 and 10 percent.
It was later discovered that the company imported cooking oil and spare parts whose import tax range from 25 and 35 percent, denying the taxman Sh64 million in taxes.
