Kipchumba Murkomen has officially taken office as Kenya's new Interior Cabinet Secretary promising to uphold the accomplishments of his predecessors while delivering on the commitments made by President William Ruto to the Kenyan populace.
This transition signals a crucial shift within the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, a key department tasked with ensuring national security, resource management, and the implementation of government policy. During the recent handover ceremony, Murkomen expressed his gratitude to President Ruto for the trust placed in him.
"To be entrusted by the President with the responsibility of serving our country in the Cabinet is a great honour and privilege," he remarks.
He acknowledges the contributions of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi who acted in the cabinet role following Kithure Kindiki's appointment as Deputy President. Murkomen commends Mudavadi for his dedication and the stability he provided to the ministry during his interim leadership. He also recognizes Kindiki's two-year tenure as Interior Cabinet Secretary, which laid a solid groundwork for the ministry's future.
"We shall build on their achievements and deliver what the President promised the people of Kenya," Murkomen stated, underscoring his commitment to maintaining the ministry's momentum in enhancing security, promoting efficient public administration, and fostering national cohesion.
With the festive season approaching, he calls on Kenyans to prioritize road safety and celebrate responsibly, wishing everyone "a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Let's observe road safety and celebrate with moderation."
Murkomen's appointment follows his previous roles as Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Sports, and his experience is expected to offer a new perspective within the Interior Ministry as he takes over from Kindiki.
The Ministry of Interior and National Administration is pivotal to Kenya's governance structure, and Murkomen's leadership is expected to help navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
