ODM leader Raila Odinga Raila Odinga alongside key party allies, has called upon President William Ruto to address the alarming rise in abductions across Kenya.
This urgent plea was articulated during the burial ceremony of Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) Chairperson, Roseline Odede, held at Ruma Primary School in Rarieda, Siaya County. During the event, Odinga recounted his past experiences as a political prisoner, detailing the traumatic circumstances that characterized previous abductions. He described how detainees were often subjected to blindfolding, disorientation, and confinement in dark, damp rooms.
Odinga stressed the necessity of preventing the recurrence of such inhumane practices under the current administration. Supporting Odinga's calls for action, Siaya Governor James Orengo emphasized the importance of adhering to the core principles of the ODM party. Orengo criticized party members who have aligned themselves with President Ruto's government, suggesting that such alliances betray the foundational values of the movement.
He urged the ODM to uphold its steadfastness and principles, even when facing political challenges. Echoing these sentiments, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna expressed his discontent with members who have shown support for Ruto. He accused them of engaging in sycophancy and reminded them of the President's promises to tackle the country’s pressing issues. Sifuna urged the ODM to remain vigilant and continue holding the government accountable for its actions.
In other party developments, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has publicly criticized Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, expressing dissatisfaction with his administration's performance and accusing him of governance issues and inefficiency. Owino's remarks come at a time when speculation is growing regarding the potential endorsement of Sakaja's 2027 gubernatorial bid by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
In an address, Owino points to Sakaja's inability to deliver effective services amid a substantial budget exceeding Sh40 billion. He asserts that the county's revenue collection remains inadequate and remarks that, “Nairobi deserves better. Governor Sakaja's leadership has failed to meet the expectations of Nairobi residents.”
