Kikuyu Elders Emancipate the Community from Cultural Bondage Including 1969 Oath Against Luos

Kikuyu Council of Elders and Kiama Kia Ma cultural associations have set the Agikuyu community free from cultural bondage, including the 1969 oath against the Luo community.

The 1969 oath barred the Agikuyu from socially and politically associating with the Luo community following a bitter fallout between Kenya’s first president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

On Sunday, Kikuyu elders gathered at their Ruaka shrine in Kiambaa, Kiambu County where they set the community free of any cultural bondage pertaining to cultural events and acts of the period between 1969 and 2022. Being a cultural problem, the elders resolved to invoke cultural solutions through rituals and prayers.

In a joint statement themed "Harmful Campaigns by Persons of Ill based on Historical Acts and Utterances", the two associations said that the move followed three years of internal consultations. The statement was signed by the national chairmen and Kikuyu Council of Elders' national patrons, Ndungu Gaithuma, Wachira Kiago, and Kinyua Mwangi.

"Kikuyu elders have over the years been aware of a sinister campaign of disinformation by persons of ill will targeting the youth hinged in actions and utterances made during the turbulent period of the community's history from 1969 onwards," the elders said.

"Following extensive internal consultations that started in 2019, elders concluded that the campaign had the potential for causing irreversible social and cultural damage to the community, now and in future.”

Consequently, the elders announced that the community can now intermarry with any other communities without cultural hindrances.

"Our people can now freely marry and associate either politically or socially with any other community because they are henceforth free of any cultural bondage pertaining to cultural events and acts," elder Gaithuma said.

The elders appealed to the community to disregard ill-intentioned persons, practices, policies, and politics designed to divide and deviate them from their common good.

Iam one of those those who did not know. I also question the timing;right when the elections are around the corner, and one of the two leading in the horse race is a luo.
What I would like to know is if kikuyu women have been freed from mutilating their genitals,by these old men?

The timing is suspect. Most will follow whatever tradition they want and consign whatever they don't care about to history's dustbin. My belief is that FGM will decline as education and urbanisation increase. Many already don't allow the mutilation of their daughters and while I am not representative having grown up in Nairobi, the Kikuyu women I know do what's best for them and their children and not what song tradition demands.

I find these old kikuyu elders quite useless in their claims. These are the kind of folks that I cant wait for them to die for the society to naturally cleanse itself. They look old, ugly and goat smelling idiots. That includes Uhuru’s cousin Kungu who is mentally retarded and confused.

It is some kikuyus who had enslaved themselves following some expired idiologues who have no purpose in the community.

Unfortunately most of the other Kenyan communities (such as luhya, kalenjin, luo, etc) have their own rugged old traditional people with worse traditional beliefs than these kikuyu analogs.

I do not understand the material significance of these remnants except to instill retrogressive fear and bad culture to the younger generation.

Who are these elders who have been wasting their time since 2019?
History cannot be changed; we can only learn from it.
Are these elders blind or where have they been?
Gikuyu's have been intermarrying with other communities for years.
Why are the elders giving permission where they cannot? Assuming fake powers.
Let them talk about the constitution that binds Gikuyu with others. Let them participate in politics but not culture.
They do not have any power over God's covenant with the Gikuyu ( Culture).
God's covenant is not a penal code that can be changed. It is written in the hearts of men. Not touchable; not changeable.
It is what it is. Culture is Culture- It is a way of life. It is not something you can wish and it disappears.

Don’t Ever forget about history. The same way Evil Jungus want us to forget about the evil they did to us n move on.It was Raila himself n the his elders who were to come n ask for forgiveness from the kikuyus.Sisi kama wakikuyu hatuna shida na Luoz as a community.Shida ya wakikuyu ni from raila jaramogi family.Na itaishia kwa ballot by sending the evil old man straight to bondo. We will vote for another Luo president not from ondinga family period.

Confused stupid wazees being bribed by Raila and Uhuru to woe Kikuyus to desperately vote for Raila, after receiving millions and millions to share amongst themselves. Why bring up the issue now? I remember that night of 1961 when adults left in lorries and returned in wee hours of the morning, mum! Said nothing, heard nothing.

So basically admitting rampant tribalism amongst the Agikuyu coz trust me the rest of Gema Don t have some of these Archaic Deep seated beliefs. Laana zingine ninza kujitakia... Watu wanajua Mungu wakati huu wote makanisa kaa zote kenya Nzima Kikuyus are at the helm but they harbored such deep tribalism in their hearts? This is for those Agikuyus still living under Mt. Kenya Rocks. Travel expand your horizons and pallets visit towns like Bungoma, Kisii, Kakamega even Garrissa. Uone vile wakikuyu wame intermarry huko kweli kweli. All kids ni half Kikuyu and the local communities and they have lived in peace with those communities in local leadership positions for decades upon decades. In the 2007/2008 election when the fights erupted in Kericho town, the Kikuyus there OUTNUMBERED the Kalenjins. For the first couple of weeks the Kalenjins with their tu mishales would kick the Kikuyus out and by sunset the Kikuyus would be back to run their shops and businesses as if nothing had happened. Until the command came in from Ruto and that wicked man Frank (forgot) his last name, the Kalenjin MP who died in a plane crash with Laboso. Yes, that one. He provided petrol. And Kalenjin youths would line up at some of his petrol stations to get mafuta ya kuchoma ma nyumba na biashara za wakikuyu. With Rutos blessings the Kipsigis in Kericho begged for help from the Nandis, Ruto ni mnandi. Hao ndio wauwaji walileta Bundukis they use in cattle rustling to finally drive the populous Kikuyus, Kisiis and Kambas out of Kericho town. I ain't talking about things I read or watched on the news. These are things I witnessed with my own eyes. Hii ukabila lazima itaisha. It is very unfortunate for these demented elders to even speak of things like these in 2022 when we have come so far and learnt so many lessons. This is the point where God lets the youth curse their elders for haboring tribalism and hate for so long hindering so many beautiful outcomes that would come from intercommunity cooperation. Do these elders know how Especially Luhyas love Kikuyu women. Mluhya akioa mkikuyu he feels like and Over-achiever. Some sort of a local king. Wanajiskia sana. And thats a good thing. I know many Kikuyu families have taught their children not to accept other communities or treat them differently and it's very unfortunate. If you are amongst those kinda parent whether it's a woman educating her daughter or a man his son, you better stop it because you will be your own undoing. Very many Kikuyus who live amongst other Kenyans finally realize how ridiculous their assumptions of other communities are. I know for a fact that some, unfortunately even in this forum will never vote for Raila because as they say he is a "kihii". SMH see the same way they didn't elect a "kihii" in Kenya. A "kihii" was elected in the United States. If that doesn't tell you anything then you are a fool. Abandon primitive beliefs and embrace change or deny yourself blessings and opportunities by continuing to be tribalistic. Tembea Kenya, Shun Tribalism, Embrace All tribes, Be Witness to a Prosperous Kenya.
