A Kenyan landlady has wowed Kenyans on social media after making a generous decision to waive rent for her tenants in January 2023.
In a viral video, the landlady identified as Martha Wanjiru thanked her tenants for their support over the years and explained how they have helped her business.
“We have lived together for many years, always pass each other on the stairs and yet we don’t know each other,” the landlady said during a Christmas party she organized for her tenants.
She added: “I am very thankful because without you people we wouldn’t be here. There are no landlords without tenants. Having houses with no one to rent them is all in vain. We passed through the very difficult season of Corona, went up then came down and God helped us go through all that.”
Wanjiru, who reportedly owns rental houses in Ongata Rongai, went on to announce her decision to waive rent for January, saying the move was a way of thanking her tenants for their support.
“As you eat here, don’t worry about January, nimewaachia rent. I know you have school fees and some of us have other things waiting for us. We have a very good relationship and it was time to appreciate you. I never take money to church, you are my church,” she added.
Her tenants were thrilled by her gesture kind gesture, with social media users joining in to praise the landlady.
“Wow! Such a lovely Godly gift. You’re such a wonderful person. You’ve a heart for giving, not because of a show-off, but it’s in you. You’re truly blessed among blessed. God grant you countless blessed years,” a user said.

No wonder you are Kora kanini, in our world we do what makes us feel good and thats what she did
...a bit if clout chasing...but really touched the right pockets.. Talk of giving back....
@Kora. Really self gratification - how so? She organized a Christmas party as a way to thank the tenants. How about seeing the positive side of this one. It is the holidays and this is a great christmas present to the tenants who have been great to her. As a landlord my self, this is a selfless act on the landlady, as i would be hard pressed to forgo rent, while i have bills to pay for the property. Hongera Ms Wanjiru. The world needs more people like you who are selfless and compassionate.
You don't have to be great or famous to do a great thing
She did a small gesture in a great way. I agree with her it's better what she did than giving the offerings
Do not hate congratulate .Being a landlord is no joke and then waiving rent in Kenya where 99% is out for themselves atleast she is not taking that money to the likes of pastor Nganga who use it for themselves abusing the flock in the process
Bless her heart. I have also decided to transport 12 customers per day on my nduthi for free till midnight on January 31st.
Indeed, there is agood spirit in the air. As the good people of the world continue to share their blessings during this holiday season,I would also hope that thieves, rapists, killers, robbers, and all those that are a menace to society would also take time to reflect and refrain from causing harm to others for at least for the duration of the holiday season.Better yet if they cold stretch it till end of January, and best if they cold stop for good.My Holiday wish to all.Happy holidays.
The only issue I have with her is she did it for self gratification. Whenever your right hand gives don't let your left hand know.
