Six Journalists Arrested over Leaked Video of South Sudan President Kiir Wetting Himself

Authorities in South Sudan are reportedly detaining six journalists in connection with a leaked viral video of President Salva Kiir.

The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) said the six journalists working for the State-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) were arrested this week.

They are Joval Tombe, Cherbek Ruben, Victor Lado, Joseph Oliver, Jacob Benjamin, and Mustafa Osman.

"Five of the journalists were detained on Tuesday and one on Wednesday," said Patrick Oyet, who heads UJOSS.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of the journalists, who are reportedly being held at the National Security Service headquarters known as Blue House.

The leaked video showed President Kiir, 71, seemingly urinating on himself at an official event in December 2022.

Moments before commissioning a newly constructed road, Kiir is seen standing up for his country's national anthem when a stain appears on his trouser before a pool slowly forms at his feet.

The president appeared to be unaware of what was going on before the cameraman quickly pans away after noticing the pool of urine.

The leaked video sparked a debate on social media, with many questioning whether Kiir is still fit enough to govern South Sudan.

Kiir became South Sudan's president in 2011 after the nation gained its independence from Sudan following a referendum.

The people of South Sudan are expected to take to the ballot in the country’s first election in 2024.

Shouldn't this be a teachable moment? We should not be ashamed of our leaders going through what is natural to all human beings. Granted that, one does not usually unirinate on themselves in public, there has to be avery compelling reason for that;such as a medical reason.
Now other than embarrassment, I do not see any damage done.Do you?
I have seen the video.Kiir was indeed in avery public place, giving a speech. To me, the leak could have come from numerous sources. Anyway, what law did whoever leaked, exactly violet?

Mr.kiir with modern medicine, there are several treatment strategies available out there for transient or chronic urinary incontinence & overactive bladder. It is a common problem affecting millions of aging /elderly population.Don't be embarrassed and don't disregard or delay seeking an urologist advice for such a simple & controllable condition.

No big deal! President Kirr had a medical issue, no shame in that, and journalists were live streaming- in- real time, just doing their job. They did not attend the event to show President Kirr peeing on himself. Set them free.

That was shown all over the world by major news media. Kiir your medical condition was not caused by the 6 journalists. You need to step down to avoid future embarrassment for your country & yourself.

Carr need to seek medical help from a qualified doctor to resolve his pissing in bed issues with instead of going after those trying to help him by reporting the matter to the people. If the dude has a medical problem he should get it fixed.

It could have been worse. Imagine if he had shitted all over himself in public and Donald Trump seen it? He would have used the occasion to justify his assertion that African countries are shitty.
