Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino says that four banking institutions have agreed to his earlier demands.
In a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, the MP said that for him to open a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) account in any bank, the institution must first employ at least ten residents of his constituency.
“For me to open Embakasi east cdf account with any bank in Kenya or proceed with the existing account, the bank must provide employment opportunities to at least 10 residents of Embakasi east.If the above Condition is not met the bank should forget business from us.DO ME I DO YOU,” wrote Babu Owino.
In another post on Friday, the former Students Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU) leader said four Banks including Cooperative Bank, CBA, KCB and Equity Bank had contacted him and expressed their will to fulfil his condition.
“The following banks contacted me today and have agreed to employ residents of Embakasi east. Coop bank, CBA, KCB and Equity bank. Embakasi east residents love you. Need CVs.”
"I would like to urge all the companies & government institutions in Embakasi East to employ the residents," he added.

Babu makes some of us look stupid. Big up brother
Succumbing to these type of demands is corruption in plain sight. DPP needs to move in into these "deals".
How is it corruption? It's a great employment and economic model. it's a deal done in broad daylight for all to see.
"So great" when done for the press to danganya toto jinga... when "do me i do you" or scratch my back I scratch yours is used in the African context, we know what it means....SOON IT WILL BE DONE AWAY FROM THE PRESS, AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO POCKET THE LOOT...guess who wil?...Baby Owhiny. Very poor role-modelling.....what are our kids learning here?
It's a global thing, Trump has mentioned that, " put Americans First" and demanded the same measures, so why not Babu. Afterall people especiallky the youth are now getting jobs coz he demands every company within to hire the locals. So it's a great negotiating deal! Great Role Model Indeed.
The problem with you @ukweli, it looks, you just can't discern....can't tell at what point to change your mind. You seem to be those people who buy something and stay with it for ever, no matter what....the fact that you still think America is still "It" and you are still looking up to its leadership tells me a lot about you. Two wrongs DO NOT make a right.....whether America does the same or not.. and/or 'everyone' does it....A WRONG IS A WRONG IS A WRONG!
What have you done?
There should be very clear guidelines as to where the money should be banked, how, when it should he used and by whom. These gaping holes in the construction need to be closed ASAP. Babu should merely be following the law not coming up with "clever ideas" on how to throw his weight around. He should table those ideas in Parliament for discussion.
This is nothing new. It happens hata US. You saw just the other day the individual states going into a frenzy to outbid each other for Amazon to establish its 2nd Hq in one of them, in exchange the state gets employment for its pple and it provides some incentive like tax break/cut to Amazon. The only problem is some companies will kula the incentive only to months down the line fire the employees it pledged to hire siting quarterly loses. My point, beware of such companies!!
@Kijicho. You are comparing two different things. Owino is talkiing about opening a bank account not opening a bank branch or expanding a branch in his constituency. Amazon not talking about opening a bank account in MD with Belair National Bank. They want to open a 2nd HQ and that will create hundreds of jobs
The picture i am trying to paint is, hizo banks could accept to hire Embakasi constituents only for them to get the Cdf account opened and then months down the line fire the employees siting quarterly losses. In short just using those employees as pawns to get what they want.
@Kijicho. I get your point. Hii ni kimbele mbele ya Owino tupu. I know there are guidelines of where CDF should be banked and the account already exist. CDF is not a new thing it was there before he became an Mpig
Spot on @Kenya. Apples and oranges, can't compare.

it was said by trump before
now it is serve embakassi people
as to proceed your agenda
for working our erea
I do not get it. He is talking of opening a bank account (CDF) not opening a bank branch. To my guess that bank account already exists because other before him used it. On the other hand this is opening a bank account with the banks that already in his constituency and are fully staffed. Does he want some staff who do not live in Embakasi East to be fired to create job opportunities for his people.
And if those 10 so happen to be the most qualified, and "unfortunately" Kikuyus, and Kalenjin, will there be a backlash...
Maxiley, hiyo ni yako. Didn't see / read it in the article. I don't necessarily agree with Babu Owino's approach to doing things but he's VERY RIGHT on this one. He's in Parliament to represent his constituents and joblessness is one of the biggest problems he has to contend with. Way to go Babu!
Air-headed gallery "leadership"
Babu Owino. SCREW Equity Bank. As a Matter of Fact Equity Bank should be on NASA's "Boycott Chopping Block".
