President Uhuru's Finds a New Title for Deputy President Ruto

President Uhuru has 'invented' a new name for Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking at Kasarani Stadium moments after delivering his speech following his inauguration on Tuesday, Uhuru referred toRuto as "Pastor", leaving the crowd in the fully packed 60,000-seat stadium excited.

In the past, the president has preferred to identify the deputy by his baptismal name, William. Although its not known why he referred to him as pastor, the fact that the DP was the chairman of Christian Union during his days at the University of Nairobi (UON) could be the reason why. Ruto also constantly uses the phrase "Bwana Asifiwe" in his speeches.

“I want us to pray and say the Lord’s Prayer. I’ll say it in English, and my brother here, pastor, will finish in Kiswahili,” President Kenyatta said at the Kasarani Stadium after he finished his 3,900-word second-term speech.

In his extemporaneous speech after taking Oath of Office, Ruto said: “We have got here, not because of our own might, but by God’s grace."

"And I agree with you today: It is not by witchcraft, it is about prayer. And today I want us to sing that there is no God like ours, and today, I will be the soloist," he added as he led the crowd in singing the famous "Hakuna Mungu Kama Wewe" song.

President Kenyatta thanked Ruto, his wife Margaret and Ruto's wife Rachael for their contribution towards the success.

“Let me thank my friend and brother, Deputy President William Ruto. Your energy, humour and optimism lifted our campaign every day,” the President said.

“I also wish to thank Mrs Rachel Ruto. You have been the spiritual and prayerful bedrock of our two families; and the Kenyan nation."

“To my dear wife Margaret: You have been my pillar of strength; your passion to uplift the well-being of every Kenyan inspires me, as it inspires millions of Kenyans. I thank you, Margaret,” he added.
