Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.
Kidero was reportedly whisked away from his residence in Muthaiga after an early morning raid by detectives. The sleuths further ordered the former Governor to accompany them to his office in Westlands.
He was later driven to the EACC headquarters at Integrity Centre in Nairobi. Last month, Kidero was arrested and charged in connection to the alleged loss of Sh213 million taxpayers cash during his tenure as Nairobi Governor.
He was arrested on claims of abuse of office, money laundering, bribery, conflict of interest and failure to protect public property following orders by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji.
“The DPP has independently reviewed the file and material submitted to him and is satisfied that the persons named are criminally culpable jointly and severally,” DPP Noordin Haji said in a statement at the time.
He was charged together with Lilian Wanjiru (former Nairobi county secretary), Jimmy Mutuku (Former CFO), Gregory Mwakanongo (former Finance executive) and Stephen Ogago (former head of County Treasury).
Others were Luke Mugo (Ag Chief Officer Finance), Maurice Ochieng (Ag Head of County Treasury), John Githua and Grace Njeri of Lodwar Wholesalers Ltd and Ngurumani Traders Ltd.
Kidero is out on a Sh2 million cash bail.

Just sitting here wondering why her holiness, Delilah, the one and only Waiguru is still out there getting fat, literally. I guess she mastered the use of her ‘kitty’ pretty good. Like Matilda and her serpents
She owns 10000 acres hapa karibu rumuruti, Avocado farm... corruption pays in kenya and until that ends corruption will be the only booming business in Kenya
Ningependa kujua, Je, Dada Waiguru ameshikwa au yungali huru?
Until we see all these high profile conmen/conwomen handed long jail sentences and their ill gotten wealth confiscated the war against corruption is a total joke. Governors are killing with impunity, violation of public trust is the norm. There are no consequences. There are thousands of cases of frauds involving public officials with zero convictions. We have learned to tolerate the fleecing of our country as a way of doing business. Wake up good people. Soon there will be nothing left to steal. What a country!! Lifestyle audit should be a prerequisite for all government employment.
This is nothing but a dog and pony show; until one of these elite mega corrupt looters of public funds is handed down a big prison term.
