Kenyans have expressed fear after a pride of lions was spotted near residential areas in Nairobi and Ongata Rongai on Wednesday.
The lions, believed to have sneaked out of the Nairobi National Park, were first seen walking past Africa Nazarene University in Tuala area in Ongata Rongai.
In a tweet, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) said: “…Our team was notified about it. In the event of further sightings, please call our toll free line 0800 597000.”
The lions were later spotted around Nairobi’s Karen C area with media personality Julie Gichuru taking to Twitter to urge Kenyans around this area to be careful.
“Someone spotted lions on the outskirts of Nairobi/Ongata Rongai… Majestic! If you are in the area do be careful good people, don’t go for a random walk.”
Twitter user Ochanji Samuel said: “This is not some cool Nairobi novelty. Someone’s gonna get hurt if lions can sneak out of the park.”
Nick Mwai tweeted: “Look carefully KWS, they could be looking for food.”
KWS official Paul Udoto later confirmed the lions had been guided back into the Nairobi National Park.
