Police Discover Bullet-Proof Strongroom Inside DusitD2 Hotel Where Terrorists Hid Explosives Before Attack

Police have reportedly discovered a bullet-proof room inside DusitD2 Hotel where terrorists allegedly stocked deadly weapons before the Tuesday attack.

The Star reports that several rounds of ammunition and explosives were found in the room, where one of the gunmen was hiding before being killed by security officers.

“It took us very long to break into the room because the armored door was very difficult to break. When we finally did, the commander, who was the last person to be killed, had so many grenades and rounds of ammunition in the room,” The Star quotes a source.

After breaking in, officers found the weapons wrapped in the hotel’s laundry bags and stashed in drawers while others were scattered on the floor.

Detectives have launched investigations into the possibility of an inside job involving the hotel's staff.

“We suspect an inside job considering these people had been frequenting the place as they schemed the attack. The five attackers had a lot of ammunition and their commander was very well trained. He gave us a difficult time and when he hid in the armored room, that slowed us down as well,” adds the officer.

On Friday, five suspecting including a Canadian nation and four Kenyans were arraigned in court in connection with the attack that left 21 people dead and several others injured.

The five suspects are Joel Ng’ang’a Wainaina, Oliver Kanyago Muthee, Gladys Kaari Justus, Guleid Abdihakim (Canadian) and Osman Ibrahim.

Milimani Law Courts Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku allowed police to detain the five suspects for a period of 30 days pending completion of investigations.

Somalia-based terrorist organization Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack, which left 21 people dead, citing United States President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israeli's capital.
