Kenyan Court Employee Who Killed Her Husband, Daughter in Their Sleep Arrested

A 45-year-old Kenyan judiciary employee accused of brutally killing her husband and daughter in Kirinyaga County has been arrested.

Naomi Wanjiku, a clerk at Karatina Law Courts, is said to have committed the heinous act their home in Kioru Village in Ndia on Saturday morning.

She allegedly attacked and killed her 47-year-old husband, Charles Murimi and her 13-year-old daughter named Vallerie Njeri with an axe as they slept at around 4 am.

It is also reported that she unsuccessfully attempted to attack her 21-year-old son Felix Njine before going into hiding. Felix said he managed to seize the weapon from his mother as she tried to attack him.

The suspect was Sunday found hiding in a bush near her home by a neighbor, who alerted police leading to her arrest. Confirming her arrest, Kirinyaga West police commander Joseph Mwika said the suspect is in custody but she is unresponsive.

“We have the suspect in our custody at the Baricho Police Station but she looks confused and seems not even aware that she killed her family,” said Mwika.

Neighbors said Wanjiku and her husband Murimi, who was a manager at Jufred Dairies, were embroiled in constant domestic fights before this incident.

Mental illness is the saddest story of our times. The disease that has no pain, does not have a physical manifestation but continues to destroy families.
