How One Kenyan Scholar Is Guiding Students to Study Opportunities in Germany
Cyrus Robiro, a Kenyan political scientist, has left a position in Germany’s Interior Ministry to establish an organisation that helps Kenyan students pursue higher education in Germany.
Robiro founded Migratunity to provide structured support for education-based migration. The organisation assists students with university applications, visa processes, accommodation, and settling into life abroad. He describes the initiative as mentorship-driven, drawing on his own experience of studying and working in Germany.
His journey began nearly two decades ago when he moved from Kenya to Frankfurt after high school to study Political Science. Having learned German in advance and with family already in the city, he adapted quickly. He later completed postgraduate studies in Marburg and went on to work in immigration within Germany’s public service.
Robiro said he chose to leave his government role despite its stability in order to focus on expanding access to international education. He maintains that studying abroad offers a more reliable route to employment than attempting to secure opportunities directly from Kenya.
Migratunity provides comprehensive support, starting with eligibility assessments and continuing through each stage of the application process. The organisation has partnerships with private universities and also advises students applying to public institutions, where places are more limited. It states that unsuccessful applicants are refunded according to agreed terms.
Since its launch in April 2025, Migratunity has supported 15 Kenyan students in enrolling at institutions in Germany, with additional applications underway. Robiro notes that outcomes cannot be guaranteed but says the organisation offers clear and realistic guidance based on experience.
