Kenyan Businessman Dies from Covid-19 in the US
A Kenyan-born businessman has reportedly succumbed to Covid-19 in the United States.
Dr. Maurice Odhiambo Ojwang passed away in New York on Monday, April 20th, according to his younger brother Ojwang Jacobo.
“This is to confirm that my elder brother, Dr Maurice Ojwang had passed on yesterday morning (Monday) after short illness bravely borne. To our friends and relatives who have reached out to condole with us, we heartily thank you,” Jacobo announced through Facebook on Tuesday.
The deceased was the owner of Maurice Ojwang Unique Academy in Kisumu County and was reportedly running a business in the US, where he had employed a number of Kenyans.
Ojwang worked for the defunct Kenya Posts and Telecommunication Corporation until 1990 when he resigned and moved to the US for further studies.
In a media briefing last week, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau said five Kenyans had died of Covid-19 in the US. He indicated that all five had underlying medical conditions prior to contracting the virus.
As of Wednesday, the US had confirmed over 819,000 cases of Covid-19 and more than 45,000 deaths—the highest in the world.
