Nairobi Governor Sonko Cries Foul After Bodyguards, Drivers are Withdrawn

Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has protested the withdrawal of security detail and drivers assigned to him. The drivers and bodyguards at his Upper Hill office and Mua residence were withdrawn on Friday, April 24th, days after he vowed to terminate a deal that saw the national government takeover key functions previously performed by the Nairobi county government.

Sonko last week claimed that the takeover process had been hijacked by some national government officials in a bid to embarrass and frustrate him.

“When we started this process the President had good intentions on Nairobi but some of his greedy officers in gvt especially the ones who hate me have hijacked the process to embarrass and frustrate me with a lot of impunity,” Sonko noted.

Sonko declared he will not sign the deed of transfer of functions, claiming that he has not been served with a copy of the document to date and does not know its contents. “I will not sign in fact this is the time to terminate the transfer of functions deed. To date I have not been furnished with a copy of the deed,” Sonko wrote.

“I was not given sufficient time to even read the draft. I was just told it is a good thing on service delivery to the great people of Nairobi as I deal with my court cases since I love you, people of Nairobi,” he added.

The withdrawal of the drivers and bodyguards also came after Sonko allegedly held a meeting with Deputy President William Ruto, according to Daily Nation.

“I'm the governor of the city but I am shocked to find all my county drivers and guards have been moved... and this leaves me exposed,” Sonko said as quoted by The Standard.

"If I have to leave my office or home, I will have to drive myself. All the drivers and askaris attached to my office have been recalled."

He talks of having "drivers and guards", complains of being left "exposed" and "driving myself" all while most Nairobians are experiencing or facing starvation. I'm sorry Sonko that you have to face emaciated constituents. Very threatening indeed.

Go back to your mentor the hustler himself aka Arror dam guy and the grabber of 3000 acres of sewage land in Ruai for advice.

Welcome to the world of mwananchi... you have many cars, many servants and many contacts. Take one car, one of your servants can get a promotion to PA, the other driver. You are actually not in the 'mwananchi' category..... Big boys can take care of themselves... they always do.

There is a court order that stops him from getting to the City Hall. For his private office in upper hall, he should use his private drivers.

Sonko should have been jailed long time ago. He has stolen tons of taxpayers money. He should be playing governor anymore. Lock this thug and throw away the key. Lock him up.

Sonko just taste a dose of how ordinary Kenyans live and get around without body guards and drivers. Our homes are not protected by police and when we see one we just run away and hide! Hii Kenya yeti ni sawa!

Does Sonko own Nairobi? Why did Uhuru protect him from impeachment? If he stands in the way of Maendeleo ya Nairobi, he should go home. He refused to name a deputy governor and we kept quiet. Now he doesn’t want the budget to go through? Where is democracy in Kenya? I thought aristocracy was dead. I don’t think Nairobi needs another headache. Covid-19 is enough for now.

Sonko, please stop wasting our time with your cry baby attitude, we got bigger problems to worry about, ie Covid 19. Hire your own Guards & Drivers, ask for help from the Hustler Jamaa, unajifanya ngombe’ ukamuliwe naaa.
