Kalonzo Hints at Joining Forces with Uhuru Ahead of 2022 Election
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka says his party is considering entering into a post-election agreement with President Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party ahead of the 2022 election.
Kalonzo, in an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, May 11th, said Wiper party recently resolved to explore legal means of exiting its existing coalition with ODM, ANC, and Ford-Kenya with a view of positioning itself for the 2022 election.
“Wiper will be ready to enter into a coalition with both Jubilee and KANU when that time comes,” said Kalonzo.
"We had our NEC meeting which was virtual and I can tell you that just to indicate how things have changed we had a record attendance when we convened as NEC. We agreed that we need to be able to open negotiations and be able to move in that direction so we are already set but the only thing is that we need to look at the legalities of this issue," he added.
Kalonzo’s remarks come after Jubilee signed a post-election agreement with Kenya African National Union (Kanu) last week.
"Kanu and Jubilee are within their rights to conclude a post-election coalition and I wish them well. As Wiper we are also consulting with our coalition partners in ODM, ANC, and Ford Kenya to be able to see what we can do. At this time, I think the country needs to come together regardless of political persuasion in order to jumpstart the economy in order to unite this country further," noted Kalonzo.
