Police Go After Kenyans Filmed Harassing Drunk Assistant County Commissioner [VIDEO]

A video of residents of Limuru in Kiambu County harassing an Assistant County Commissioner and demanding he explains why he is drunk in the morning hours has gone viral on social media.

In the undated video recording, one of the residents is heard asking the heavily drunk administrator to explain why he was drunk at a time when the county is fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

The man, who is quickly joined by other residents, also demands to know where the administrator took his booze given that the government ordered the closure of all bars and entertainment joints as part of the measures to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The commissioner who has since been identified as Lincolin Kagunyi reacts by threatening to whip those harassing him as he maintains that he is not intoxicated.

Addressing reporters on Friday, May 15th, Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga defended Kagunyi saying he is a recovering alcoholic and warned residents that harassing him could worsen his condition.

“The ACC has a condition and he was brought closer home so that the family can assist in the recovery journey,” said Wanyanga.

He added that there are plans to book him to a rehabilitation facility as efforts to quit alcohol on his own have failed having battled alcoholism for years.

“We believe putting him in rehab will help him get over his drinking problem. Residents should refrain from worsening his condition by sharing those videos."

Limuru Deputy County Commissioner Charles Makele said police have launched a search for those filmed harassing Kagunyi.

“This is a sick man, he has his own rights ... residents ought to have reported the matter to the relevant authorities”, he said.

Curious to know what happens when residents report ?its for the reasons of failed judiciary, oppression and unfair treatments that make folks take laws in their hands. I don’t see anything wrong with residents wanting to know how he has not followed the law. Law is law and he broke it regardless of his mental issues. Useless cops

Am I missing something? So it's okay for chief to be drunk at work..in uniform? He is answerable to the people as long as he holds that office.

Are they genuinely concerned for his welfare or just feel bad he did not share where he obtained the alcohol from and are looking to pick a fight out of boredom and frustration.

That’s what the useless “in his defense team” is trying to convince us. Please they need to shove it.. drinking in government Uniforms’s violating orders I guess us acceptable for chiefs. But ordinary citizens asking for sausage and two drinks warrants them to go to quarantine. Upuuuus. He should be fired it’s that’s Simple. No excuses. There other qualified young men that can do this job..

Double standards applied. The police will clobber Wanjiku, lock her in a stuffy cell b4 taking her to a jury for sentensing her alchoholism etc not withstanding. BUT for the ACC, the dice rolls the other way. Shame on Police and others in authority. I am ashamed to be a Kenyan!

Drinking alcohol is not a crime under the CORONA rules, even if he was in a pub it's the pub manager responsibility to keep it shut. I miss my pub drink and I will be happy to accompany the administrator any time.

If he's alcoholic why is he allowed to work? We have so many young and very potential people, very smart in their heads and they can work perfectly the same job that thi guy is playing around with. Kenya nani alikuroga?? Mlevi anatetewa ili aedelee kufanya uovu kazizi?? Reckless leaders
