Gov't Seeks Deal to Allow Private Hospitals to Import COVID-19 Vaccines for Wealth Kenyans

Kenya is pursuing a deal that will see top private hospitals in the country procure COVID-19 vaccines for wealthy Kenyans.

Business Daily reports that the government is in talks with COVAX to allow private health facilities to buy COVID-19 jabs from the global partnership.

COVAX is a global initiative co-led by among others, Gavi, CEPI, UNICEF, and WHO. Its aim is to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines and to guarantee fair and equitable access for all countries in the world.

Proponents of the initiative argue that it will provide COVID-19 vaccines to vulnerable and well-off Kenyans, who are not on the government’s priority list.

The government plans to inoculate at least 16 million Kenyans against COVID-19 in two years, with priority being given to health and frontline workers, the elderly, and the vulnerable.

“The discussions are underway on private hospitals buying and getting the jabs, but they are not straightforward because we must have an indemnity agreement with the hospitals. We do not have a timeframe now because it is a complex process that is being guided by Covax,” a health ministry official told Business Daily.

“Just like other vaccines like Polio, we will allow private hospitals to offer it because the idea is to vaccinate as many people as possible. It will be necessary to regulate the jab and private hospitals will only be allowed to load a service charge for the vaccine,” the official added.

Kenya received the first batch of 1.02 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine via COVAX in early March and a 100,000 shot donation from the Indian government.

Covid19 has been, and still is an equal opportunist, indiscriminately ruining, and destroying the lives of the mighty, and the impoverished in equal measure. Now this deal will the balance in favor of the rich, basically leaving the poor to fend for themselves. This is akin to the rich buying justice.
All lives matter, and I would think that most want to live as well;is there anyway our think tanks could come up with a more equitable way?

One of the most silliest of suggestions! This will give rise to another conduit of injecting placebo saline solution in the guise of covid vaccine to the gullible ‘rich’ a.k.a massively corrupt MPigs and the likes. Go for it and see how many privateers will truly inject the real vaccine. Profit and greed over prevention will mar the whole exercise. By the way...who verifies or can confirm if the shot they’ve got is truly a covid vaccine??

This is another cash cow in the making.
This will also help spread more covid 19.
Let's wait for fake drugs.
This will be a good show to watch unfold.

This is opening the floodgates of corruption. These are cartels at work. All they want is to channel out what the government already got. They might even have sold it already. What they want now is to regulate it. They don’t want Kenyans to get the vaccine free. Uhuru promised it but we know he never keeps his promises even when made in broad daylight. The cartels have never cared for Wanjiku. All they want is to strangle her and empty the little she has. Watch out Kenyans. The rich will live, get the vaccine behind your backs with the government on their side, and leave you and your children to die of Covid. Why should anyone pay taxes to a government that only cares for its cartels? Oh I forgot, the cartels are the government. Let Wanjiku die, let the rich survive....this is their gospel. Where’s is the outrage Kenyans?

Govt fishing for a scandal. This govt led by billionaires does not know problems of the poor. After a few weeks govt will tell you to visit private hospital for a vaccine
