Kenya Hits Back at UK Travel Ban, Imposes Strict Restrictions on Arriving Passengers

The government has responded to the UK’s decision to include Kenya in its ‘red list’ to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The UK added Kenya to the list alongside the Philippines, Pakistan, and Bangladesh amid concerns about new COVID-19 variants.

Consequently, travelers originating from Kenya and those who transited through the country in the past 10 days will be refused entry into England starting April 9th.

In a statement on Saturday, Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said it received the unilateral decision by the UK with “regret and disappointment”, adding that it does not reflect “prevailing logic and scientific knowledge of the disease or the pandemic.”

“…the decision seems to be motivated by a discriminatory policy against certain countries and peoples,” the ministry stated.

The ministry announced that from April 9th, passengers who departed or transited through the UK to Kenya will undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine at their costs.

“While in isolation, they will be subject to take two PCR Covid-19 tests, on days two and eight of their quarantine, at their own cost,” the ministry said.

The new restrictions do not apply to cargo flight operators and Kenyan nationals resident in the UK or transiting through its airports into Kenya. They will, however, be required to carry a valid COVID-19 negative test.

Kenya further accused the UK and other vaccine-producing nations of practicing what it termed as “vaccine apartheid.”

“Kenya continues to see, with deep regret, that vaccine producing countries around the world have begun practicing a form of vaccine nationalism, possessiveness, and discrimination, coupled with a vaccine hoarding attitude that can only be described as a form of “vaccine apartheid,” the Foreign Affairs ministry said.

They created covid19 in so lab to make the most money with the world population! It is happening in our own eyes! It is the segregation of the highest order that muzungu is practicing on Africans! Are African doctors that incapable to produce a vaccine that be used in Africa fir the African people?

Scientifically, there is no logic for the UK to impose travel restrictions for outsiders, considering that it is the source of the new, and deadlier variant of the virus. People should be asking why the British royal family, including the Queen, were vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine, instead of the British made AstraZenica vaccine. And why Africans are now being forced to buy the AstraZenica vaccine, yet Science shows that the Sputnik V Vaccine is not only affordable, it is actually more effective!

The problem of not making your own things. African countries will forever be under siege if they can't manufacture their vital products like medical, machinery, weapons, tech, or sufficient food productivity to feed their populations instead of relying on imports, etc. speaking of 'Vaccine apartheid' remember these countries have their citizens to look after.

“Vaccine apartheid”?
When a whole continent sits back to watch the rest of the world scramble resources to fight a pandemic, what the heck do you expect? The African is like a kid - very reluctant to contribute yet he wants a lion’s share of the proceeds!
Africans will continue to be treated like trash until they can make meaningful contributions towards innovations that improves livelihoods

We deserve the Vaccine for free, they shouldn't be allowed to produce Viruses, spread it for free then sell the Vaccine or cure, we were just minding our own business, next Boom Covid, Lockdown and these mess.

What a shame that a whole continent cannot produce its own vaccines? Not a single african country? Not even south africa or nigeria, not a single of the largest african economies? What happened to the kemri’s, kefri’s etc? Vaccine production is a capital intensive project amounting to almost trillions of dollars that most african countries may not be able to afford but at least they can group together and fund raise to produce one vaccine for their people were it not for regional divisions, mistrust, and corruption plaguing these countries. Africa countries have perfect blue prints to produce anything, but they are so all talk no action! Its the culture of dependence killing africans. We need to wake up from this deep slumber and understand that together we stand divided we fall. We cannot continue relying on mzungus for everything and anything and expect respect from them. Tutadharauliwa kaa takataka!!

Stop complaining and perform what you are good at,i.e,ELECTING MURDERERS,VIOLENT ROBBERS,THUGS,DRUGLORDS,PROSTITUTES/ADULTERERS etc.and worshiping them. You seem to be defending Jambazi Uhuru & Co.yet Uhuru deliberately imported COVID with an intention of looting the loan money to fight it.He stole the money yet you are silent on that. The other day Uhuru closed Wanjiku’s small businesses but left Tanzanian border and markets open. The MAKAMBURU have the right to prevent/protect themselves from COVID as you continue praising thug Uhuru & Co for pocketing your money.

If you want to know how Western countries have treated Africans and how they will continue treating Africans just look at how they treat blacks in their own countries. They mock, demean, lynch and treat them with contempt, discrimination and racism.
Are you better than those they enslaved? This is exactly how they treated our forefathers in our own land. ( they crippled, murdered, lynched and stole their land and resources)
We must wake up and create our own medicine and everything else for ourselves.
It's time. No more help. Let them help the jobless and homeless in their own countries first. They now have their own issues.

Finally! Congratulations Kenya for standing up against neo-colonialism. This is only precedented by late Moi himself when he used to castigate the West when they issued such bull on Developing countries.
Hongera for the spine that you are developing, Kenya.

I have asked the same question posited here many times,:" After over 55 years of Independence, and learning the same education/knowledge mzungu disseminates", why haven't our scientific community produced something noteworthy?
If covid19 has taught us anything is that, everyone for himself first, then the spill over to the rest.We cannot blame the west for thinking of themselves first. We should to same.
What does AU do anyway? What's so hard to amass resources for our common good. This is the only way to combat the crisis we see rise in africa from time to time.United in what ever we do, we can be aformidable force.Yes, we know better, and we should do better.
As I have always said, africans can change this negative world image by not playing into the hands of mzungu. And that is, respecting our selves. First start by being proud of our names, religion, skin color.Second, we should manufacture products that have global value. We do that, and mzungu will respect as.As they say, imitation is the sincerest for of flattery.Would it not be nice to go to UK,or USA,and see africans being admired for their intellect.Just imagine a heading in international media,"Kenyan researchers discover cure for malaria, with an efficacy of 99%"...
Again I ask,why are we lagging behind, when we have all the resources?Don't we have the brains?

Given the relative weakness of the Kenya passport, the only people this seems aimed at is those whose countries have even weaker passports - Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia, Syria, Pakistan, India etc. If you are honest and have enough money, wouldn't you buy citizenship from a country with a strong passport and better protection from corruption. Hell, even Cyprus is eliminating the program due to corruption
