KRA to Blacklist 66,000 Taxpayers PINs Effective Thursday for Failing to File Tax Returns

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is set to blacklist a total of 66,269 personal identification numbers (PINs) effective June 10th.
The deregistration of the PINs is part of KRA’s efforts to enforce tax compliance as provided for by the Tax Procedures Act 2015.
The PINs are linked to individual accounts, companies, schools, and self-help groups that have persistently failed to file returns.
Affected taxpayers will be barred from charging VAT on their supplies and making input VAT claims on supplies. Their VAT obligations will also be deregistered and canceled.
“Deregistering or canceling of VAT obligations is a continuous excise and will affect taxpayers who perennially fail to file their VAT monthly returns or those who persistently file nil VAT returns, among others,” KRA said in a public notice.
“All VAT registered taxpayers are therefore advised to comply with their tax obligations to avoid deregistration or other punitive enforcement measures as provided in the tax statutes.”
Delisted taxpayers will not enjoy immunity from past tax obligations and will retain their PINs but will not be able to transact any business.
A KRA PIN is a prerequisite to many processes such as the opening of bank accounts, job applications, land registration, among others.
“Deregistered taxpayers will remain liable for any acts done or omitted while they were registered for VAT obligation. Taxpayers whose VAT obligations are canceled are reminded that charging VAT without an active VAT registration is an offense,” KRA added.

SKAME ON YOU KRA!!!! You are the ones who harrass SMEs who do not charge VAT, and who have clearly stated that their annual returns are BELOW the 5m threshold to file nonsensical monthly returns even if they charge NONE. I've never seen clueless, greedy idiots like the ones at KRA. You then urge complainants to fill stupid outdated forms to state why they don't pay....or to ask for waiver if which the committee never seats and waiver requests are mot replied to for years...but spouses of the committee members and their front-men to get their TCCs ...selectively. The KRA employees start intimidation tactics when they hear that individual taxes were not paid since one was majuu.. bribery innuendos, frustrations and denial of TCC. The corruption racket at KRA is so close-knit that one has to find out the head and tail of the matter to be able to kill that snake. Talk to frustrated businessmen if you are honest.. DON'T send people to those huduma kiosks pretending they'll get help registering their businesses and the idiots there load VAT liabilities for SMEs that obviously do not qualify...just to turn around and start asking for bribes to help clean up an account. KRA has 95-99@% mediocre staff that all they think about is hongo... Hard to do clean business in Kenya.

Haki my brother works there, go slow. Anything I can do to help? The Kenyan mindset is rather archaic...these people do not understand that they need to encourage the tax base...by even waiving SMEs from taxes. Let them chase International corps like Magufuli did.

@Seneca, get your bro a decent job... or you'll have to disown him if he's tainted with the KRA virus. Thanks for asking ☺️
