Kenyan Man Destroys Farm Produce Worth Sh200,000 to Stop Wife from Working on Father’s Day

A man in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County on Sunday destroyed farm produce worth over Sh200,000 in order to stop his wife from working on Father’s Day.

Reports indicate the aggrieved man used a machete to slash green bananas and sacks containing avocados after his wife insisted on going to the market on Sunday.

The middle-aged man allegedly demanded that his wife takes the day off and stay at home since it was Father’s Day. Neighbors said his wife makes a living by selling farm produce at the Kitui market on Sundays.

Hellen Kaari Muriithi, one of the vendors whose produce was destroyed by the malicious man, said they learned about the incident from boda-boda riders.

Upon further investigation, they established that the suspect is the husband of one of their colleagues whose bananas were also destroyed.

Hellen estimates she lost at least Sh15,000 after the green bananas she had intended to sell were sliced into pieces.

David Muthike, an avocado trader whose stock was also destroyed, estimated that the attack cost traders more than Sh200,000.

“The suspect wanted his wife to remain at home so they could celebrate Father’s Day together,” Muthike told Citizen Digital.

It is not clear whether the incident was reported to the police.

Unbelievable, mental sickness manifests in various ways. The man turned father's day to husband's day...
Yes this is one of the destructive effects of following western mores, culture, and customs blindly. What's is father's day, but a commercial opportunity of peddler to up their wares. My suggestion is for people to create their own celebration DAY,based on their circustances.Other than that, we should all celebrate,Newyear, Independance day,Christmas(or any religion day). The rest are merely an overlap of these 3.My two cents.

Maxiley, it's not mental sickness, it's the nature of some in Kirinyaga, Embu and Meru. This people chews a lo of miraa and smokes a lot of bhang. Over the time they have evolved to different beings that are short tempered and can kill over a minor disputer. Ndia people are the worst among the group because they are almost like retards. 90% of all land cases are in Kirinyaga. That gives you an of how screwed this people

@ Guest, you just confirmed my theory when you say they smoke bhang, and miraa alot. That certainly "bends" the mind.Mental sickness dues not have to be "natural".Maybe Ishould have put sickness in quotation mark. But your point is noted. Lucky for him his wife did not wait till he is asleep and decapitate his transformer.Or should I say disconnect it.Same difference.

"Fathers Day" is a foreign culture. In African tradition, every day is fathers day. We honor and respect our parents 365 days a year.
This so called "Fathers day" is just a money making holiday. A commercial holiday and has nothing to do with fathers.
If it is about Fathers, we should remember our forefathers who were maimed, castrated, hanged, killed, their land taken by force. This is our history and this is what we need to recall, document and teach our kids so they can remember.
We are in the process of remembering who we are, what happened to our forefathers and act accordingly.

This is one that I would agree with Mk that we have been brainwashed. Father's day, mama's day, ....everday should be mzazi day if you are lucky enough to have any or both. It was not even Valentine's day (another wishwash)!!

This has nothing to do with father's day. The wife indulged in 'mpango ya kando' and that really hurts.
Their marriage is in a total disarray.

Tell your friends to visit Kenya and make sure to spend a lot of money! They are the ones who created the westernizing problems!

So what did they expect? Nonsense! You don’t damage the society’s way of life and then start whining about it from a distance!

As for Kirinyaga women, only Haddin can help them! They are corrupt and they all keep several men. Aand no wonder the dude is slashing bananas as his mind went berserk on bananas!
