Former Kiambu MCA Jailed for Four Years for Forging a KCSE Certificate

A Nairobi court on Tuesday sentenced a former member of the Kiambu County Assembly to four years in jail for forging an academic certificate.

Robert Kibe Githongo, the immediate former MCA for Kiamwangi Ward in Gatundu South, was found guilty of making a false document contrary to section 347(a) as read with section 349 of the Penal Code and uttering a false document contrary to section 353 of the Penal Code.

The anti-corruption court handed the politician a four-year jail term or pay a fine of Sh500,000—Sh250,000 for each offense.

Kibe was charged with making a false Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate S/No. 625123 purporting it to be a genuine certificate issued by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

He also faced a second count of uttering the fake KCSE certificate on December 29th, 2014, at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, purporting it to be a genuine certificate from the examination body.

Take this MCA, served from 2013 - 2017, and he is convicted in 2022. Actually, the conviction is a Shs 500,000 fine (jail is if he cannot afford). His monthly salary was about Shs 500,000. Who said crime does not pay.

@ Imkgoogo, "crime does not pay is a legal jargon, much like a criminal caught in the act pledges not guilty. In other words, crime does not pay because legally you cannot show tax return papers...legally. My two cents.

The late freedom fighter of India Brother Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi once said:

"There are unjust laws, just as there are unjust men. But truth is the truth."
