Mary Wanyoyi Chebukati Sworn in as CRA Chairperson

Mary Wanyonyi Chebukati has been sworn in as chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).

She was sworn in by Chief Justice Martha Koome on Monday, July 17 at Supreme Court buildings. This is after President William Ruto appointed her on May 23 to succeed Jane Kiringai who had been a part of the commission for six years before her retirement in February 2023. Wanyonyi is the wife of the former chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati. She is a qualified accountant and certified mediator with a Master's in Business Administration and a Bachelor's of Commerce (Accounting).

She has over 30 years of experience in accounting and prior to her appointment, Wanyonyi was the Senior Deputy Accountant General and Head of the Accounting Unit in the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development. President William Ruto picked Wanyonyi from the top three contenders suggested by the PSC after their interview. The appointment sparked a heated debate amongst MPs with a section suggesting that she was only picked because of her marital status, an accusation that her husband denied.

The former IEBC Chairperson has commended his wife Mary Wanyonyi for being selected to lead the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA). In a statement on Monday, Chebukati reminded her to stay true to the nation's laws and regulations while carrying out her new role. Chebukati expressed his assurance that his wife's knowledge and determination will ensure she succeeds in her new role.

"Congratulations Mary on your appointment as Chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation @CRAKenya! Your dedication and expertise will undoubtedly contribute to the Mandate of the CRA and prosperity for all Kenyans. Keep your fidelity to the Constitution and the Law. Wishing you great success in this important role," Chebukati said.

Based on her reported extensive background in the field of accounting and education, I think this is an appointment based on merit. Knowing Kenyans, many will see mischief in the appointment. By the way, did you all hear jalang'o's form 3 wife is being considered for a mid-level position at the Nuclear Power Commission of Kenya Board nuclear fusion exploration team (NPCK)? Now that is mischief.

Mungai. A functioning brain whose analysis is not influenced by bias and other primitive emotions asked for my opinion. A mind is a terrible think to waste. Use yours wisely mundu wa nyumba itu.

Mungai and all those cheering this punitive, vengful wanna be disctacorsip of Ruto/Rigathi, remember nothing lasts forever. Even Mugabe left, looking at how frail Ruto looks, he is not far off behind being gone. They will regret their actions. Harrasing Mama Ngina and her grand children is so low. Harrasing the opposition is what weak dictators live for. It makes him look weak and defeated. Woe unto our country Kenya, destroyed in less than a year by people with very low self esteem and even lower IQ and full of greed. Thieves.
