DJ Evolve Shooting: Babu Owino Walks Free in Gun Misuse Case

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has been cleared of charges in the shooting case of Felix Orinda who is also known as DJ Evolve.

On Tuesday, Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi of Milimani ruled that the prosecution failed to provide evidence to support the allegations against Owino. The verdict is a significant relief for the politician who has had to deal with the repercussions of the case. The case had been a blemish on Owino's political career which has continued to thrive.

"Yes, it is true. He has been acquitted of charges laid against him," his lawyer Duncan Okatch said.

In 2020, there were indications that he would eventually win the case after DJ Evolve testified that he did not see Owino at the time of the shooting. DJ Evolve also said that he did not see the firearm used to shoot him and that he did not object to Owino paying his bills since they were friends. DJ Evolve was conversing with Owino at a popular Kilimani nightclub where he worked as a DJ just before the shooting.

“I was injured by a bullet but I don't know from which gun. I just found myself in a vehicle to the hospital. I came to find out that Babu Owino was supporting me and as a friend I expected my friends to look after me," he said.
