Kenya to Lose Huge Funding if LGBTQ Practices Banned, Report Says

The potential consequences of implementing legislation against LGBTQ individuals in Kenya have been highlighted in a recent study.

The economic impact alone is estimated to be around Sh4.186 trillion if President William Ruto approves the proposed Family Protection Bill. Professor Fred Ogola, an economist and social scientist, emphasizes the various implications that would arise from anti-LGBTQ laws. These include concerns about investor sentiment, the strain on prison infrastructure and inmate population, government expenditure, and the need to update official documents. Additionally, passing the Linda Jamii Bill into law would result in a violation of Article 7 of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, to which Kenya has been a signatory since 1963.

Professor Ogola also notes that foreign donors, particularly the EU and USA, have set conditions for their support, with one of them being support for LGBTQ rights as a means of promoting equal protection and non-discrimination for all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, and more. If the bill is enacted, Kenya should be prepared to lose approximately Sh4.186 trillion, as failing to meet certain conditions could result in the withholding of financial support. This amount includes tangible benefits to Kenya's economy and development from the US humanitarian assistance provided by the US and development aid from the European Union.

Additionally, funding from the EU for humanitarian purposes and disaster preparedness, as well as approval from the IMF for Kenya's development and efforts in climate change resilience, are at stake. The Professor explains that these findings were determined by analyzing economic indicators such as employment, capital, labour force, population, and international trade.

Religion and politics should be kept apart by all means. I am not gay and neither do I endorse that behavior but I believe people should be allowed to live their lives the way they see fit as long as they are not imposing their lifestyles on others or denying others the pursuit of life, liberty, happiness, and property.

I agree with you @ MakOnyango. All these talk about gays, and lesbians may have some think that this is news. It's not. Homosexuals have been in all known human societies since man stood on two feet, cracking his back...Mzungu did not bring homosexuality in Africa. It exists even in the animal kingdom.
What I fail to understand is,"What is the big deal" so long as they are not harming anybody, and are good productive citizens, nobody should care. They are not going to threaten heterosexuals. Why are heterosexual so afraid of them? It's not like they are any less human. They love, they are compassionate, they work, they are our doctors, teachers, polices men,and women, they are our pastors, military force. They are in every fabric of our society.Do we have to deny all these positive attribute, and contribution just because they are oriented sexually different,or even if they chose?.For sure they are not going to chose"you"Be happy with your sexuality and move on people.

Are you serious? That would be the best place for them actually.High standard of living, government protection, jobs, and social funding in abundance.Don't you realize 60% of Kenyan youth would love to live in those countries you mentioned.I can envision many claiming they are gay, just to move from a shithole country to the rich, and powerful like, USA,UK.

The US & the west cannot be trusted.

They were lying about supporting democracy and free & fair elections.

They support electoral fraud & electoral fraudsters.

LBGTQ people should not trust them. Republican Christian evangelicals are the ones financing anti-LBGTQ movements in Africa. Especially Uganda.

Anti-LBGTQ movements in Africa are being financed by Republican Christian Evangelicals.

Half of US politicians are Republicans.

They cannot be trusted.

Yes. Kenya should loose the funding. Are we to sell our soul and dignity for money?
Kenya must stand on its two feet. Prison money? We do not need any individuals in prison. Africans never had prisons. They were controlled by our community laws of " Thou shall not" and by culturally guided jury trials (no corruption). This is where Kenya and all other African countries are headed.
It is an idea whose time is here. Stand on it's way and you will be crushed by it; stand on the sideline and you will have a chance to see a spectacular sight of a people following their God.
Let our societies go back to those laws. Colonial laws are about to be shed off and cultural laws will reign Supreme.
May the God of Kenya guide our leaders so we can follow God's law first
Let our leaders have wisdom to know the times we are in. Should the follow the money, they will be crushed by the spiritual wave.
Let us keep watching this space.

Gay bullshit was in Africa before the White man ever put foot on it's soil. Gay people do exist n should be allowed to live their lives as they r not breaking any laws. Why this is a concern I do not know as they ain't goin anywhere so let them be. I sleep with a woman n I do not see them at my door raising hell so why be at theirs.

Shenzi sana. Western world using hostile agenda to control and weaken Africa. All Muslim nations banned this yet no sanctions. Infact Saudi, Qatar is now becoming the center of sport with soccer, tennis and other flocking in from the West. Billions of dollars heading there. No western govt sanctioned a Muslim nations. Uganda a Christian nation sanctioned instead by these devils with wealth.
Africa return to morality and rely on God and hard work for your progress and prosperity. Relying on the West is like someone with 100m credit limit who won't get rich or out of debt bc debt is a chain to keep one going and never getting there

god’s mission on you was completed before you were born. How come? The gift of the “brain” that was given to you was a sign of “mission accomplished”
Praying, going to man-made places of worship is a sign of “lack of critical thinking skills” and a clear sign of mental retardation.

Na bado. Next they will as you to change the school curriculum to teach LGBTQ+ in class. In addition they will require pastors to stop preaching against it otherwise the funds will be cut. The story book in children books will gradually be changed to include explicit narration of erotic stories and nothing will Kenyans and African countries can do about it. Remember what the former US president said about the continent, he right in point. The storm is just beginning. Hard drugs like cocaine and fentanyl will flood the villages and the continent as whole . Young men and women will be useless and eventually the continent will depend on the west and be colonized by the east forever.
Our leaders have been hypnotized by the alluring donations and have lost the mission statement of reason the were elected. Ngojeni kidogo. Kitaturamba viserious.

Simamaimara do u know Saudi has a large group of gays only in the closet. Just becoz it is banned they do practice it n I know as a fact as I went to school with Saudi folks n they informed me they loved women but have paid to sleep with Kenyans n one of the Kenyans was a Kamba friend of mine who said he did it for the money ksh 500 to say. Everywhere u go gays will be found so the White man has nothing to do with it. Pick a book n read n will know the history of gays in Africa.

Being in the closet is ok for all but imposing in nationally on other nations is criminal esp with conditions like if you don't do it then no more of this and that from us. Just like democracy and GMO from the West is just meant to weaken Africa. What Africa needs is to copy the Asian tigers play book on economics and implement. Think before you act. Unfortunately we have a mindset of royalty which means appetite for western clothing, tech, vehicles, edu,and other comforts and laziness. No 500 yr vision like China and Asians have. Manifesto should be outlawed and have a national vision and election every ten years. One term and go home
