Prioritize Boy Child, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula Tells Education Stakeholders

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ulahas has urged education stakeholders to prioritize the education of boys.

During a prayer day at Bungoma D.E.B Mixed Primary School on Saturday, Wetang'ula discussed the importance of providing inclusive education, specifically for male students who are often overlooked. He noticed that the church's youth programs largely consist of girls, emphasizing the need to give boys equal attention. While presiding over the prayer day, Wetang'ula took the opportunity to praise the hard work of teachers and students, many of whom have accomplished outstanding academic achievements. The prayer day was meant to inspire and motivate Std 8 candidates as they prepared for their final exams.

Wetang'ula extended gratitude to his parents for their steadfast backing which had a hand in establishing the school as one of the most heavily populated primary institutions in the country. The school has evolved from being a small entity with only 150 children in 1953 to a significant institution, catering to nearly 4,800 learners today. To kickstart the development of the school, Wetang'ula generously donated over Sh10 million towards the construction of an Education block. He stressed the significance of improving access to education for both students and teachers.

In addition to this, the former Bungoma senator reaffirmed his dedication to reviving the Nzoia Sugar Company. He acknowledged the progress made in addressing the company's debts and expressed optimism for the region's economic revival once the supplementary budget allocation is secured. Meanwhile, the Speaker urged the country to take advantage of the anticipated El Nino rains. He encouraged citizens to plant crops with shorter growth periods and called on the government to invest in water harvesting initiatives.

He further requested the National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah to provide a statement on the nation's preparedness for the expected above-average rainfall. The prayer event at the school was attended by several prominent figures including area MP John Makali, Majimbo Kalasinga (Kabuchai), various county officials, and a number of local MCAs.
