UAE Introduces 10 Visa Categories for Foreigners Seeking Entry and Residence

The United Arab Emirates has formally established ten visa categories for foreign nationals seeking to enter or reside in the country.

The framework includes Tourist, Work, Residence, Student and Investor visas, as well as the Golden visa for investors, skilled professionals and other eligible individuals. It also includes the Blue visa, Medical visa, Transit visa and Visit visa.

The categories cover a range of purposes, from short-term travel and employment to education, investment, healthcare and long-term residence. The Golden visa remains a key route for eligible high-net-worth individuals and skilled professionals seeking longer-term residency.

The Blue visa is among the newer categories introduced under the framework. The Medical visa provides a route for international patients seeking treatment in the UAE, which has become a major regional healthcare destination. Transit and Visit visas cater for people travelling through the country or staying for shorter periods.

The government has also set out requirements that applicants must meet before entering the UAE. Travellers must have a valid passport or recognised travel document with at least six months of validity. They must also provide proof of onward or return travel and have health insurance covering their stay.

Authorities may refuse entry or visa applications for individuals who are barred from entering the UAE or who have previously been deported. Applicants for residence visas must also meet financial requirements, with minimum income thresholds varying according to the category.

The framework sets out both the available immigration routes and the conditions applicants must satisfy. It provides pathways for foreigners seeking to work, study, invest, receive medical treatment or visit the UAE while maintaining requirements relating to health, financial capacity and eligibility.

The ten categories are intended to provide clearer routes for different groups of foreign nationals while maintaining controls over entry and residence in the country.
