Flight Instructor and Student Pilot Killed in Kajiado Aircraft Crash

Two people, a flight instructor and a student pilot, died on Friday morning after a small aircraft crashed in Kipeto, Kajiado County, near the Kipeto wind power plant.

Kajiado West Police Commander Maureen Kuto said the student died at the scene, while the instructor succumbed to injuries while being taken to Kajiado Referral Hospital.

“The first victim succumbed at the scene while the second succumbed while being rushed to hospital,” Kuto said.

Preliminary findings indicate that heavy morning mist reduced visibility in the area. The pilot reportedly attempted an emergency landing after encountering the poor conditions, but the aircraft crashed in an open plain.

“There was a lot of mist in the morning, so they tried to crash-land, but unfortunately the aircraft crashed,” Kuto said.

Images from the scene showed the aircraft wreckage scattered across a dry field, with damaged sections of the fuselage, personal belongings and other debris spread across the area. Emergency responders were seen examining the wreckage as security officers secured the site and began preliminary assessments.

Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the crash.
