KRA Launches Mobile App to Boost Compliance for Taxpayers

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has launched a mobile application to ease tax compliance for Kenyan taxpayers.

Dubbed KRA-M-Service App, the application will enable taxpayers to easily access various services offered by the tax authority including registration, verification, payment of tax, and filing of returns.

Through the App, taxpayers can file Monthly Rental Income (MRI), register for Personal Identification Number (PIN), Payment Registration Number (PRN), and Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC).

They can also file returns for Income Tax-Resident and Non-Resident, Income Tax Partnership and Income Tax-Company, Value Added Tax (VAT), Pay as You Earn (PAYE), and Excise tax, among others.

The App is part of the taxman’s plan to expand revenue collection and make tax services cheaper, accessible, and more efficient.

It has a feature that enables the user to check the validation of KRA employees in a move aimed at taming impersonators who defraud Kenyans in the name of working for the State tax agency.

KRA is banking on the innovation to expand its tax base by bringing the informal sector on board as well as enhance remote operations by increasing e-commerce transactions.

The application is expected to ease the burden of tax compliance on Kenyans who have been challenged by the conventional methods of compliance.

So far, at least 37,000 taxpayers have downloaded the App for use in accessing various tax services. The App is available for download to Kenyans with smartphones from the Google Play Store.
