Ilhan Omar Poised to Become the First Somali-American and First Muslim-American Woman in the US Congress

Somali-American Ilhan Omar on Tuesday captured the Democratic nomination for the 5th District US Congressional seat in Minnesota.

By winning the primary seat in this heavily democratic district, Ilhan is well poised to become the first Muslim-American woman as well as the first Somali-American in the history of the US Congress after the November mid-term elections.

Ilhan,36, was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982 but moved to a Kenyan refugee camp in 1991 following the civil war in Somalia. Ilhan and her family then moved to the United States in 1995, initially settling in Arlington, Virginia but then moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Ilhan first drew national attention in 2016 when she became the first Somali-American in history to be elected to a state legislator anywhere in the country – she is currently serving as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives.

"Tonight we are celebrating because we engaged and empowered our community and we won!" Omar said in a statement on election night. "Our campaign staff, our volunteers, and the people of the Fifth Congressional District are the inspiration we need to get up every day and fight for a democracy that guarantees a more just and equitable society."

The Minnesota 5th District congressional seat has no incumbent defending it, after current Representative Keith Ellison, also a Muslim-American, left the seat to run for the Minnesota Attorney General seat.

Minnesota has a a big population of Somali-Americans and as of 2016, an estimated 80,000 Somalis were living in the state.

Ninety Five percent of Somalians, Ninety percent of Ethiopians, Forty five percent of Indians in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom Migrated to these countries using Kenyan passports yet when they reach their destinations the worst thing you can do is to call them Kenyans. They don't like been identified with "kaffirs" as they call Kenyans. Kenya is it's enemy. Just visit Nyayo house and you will ninety percent of the traffic applying for Kenyan passports are either Somalians, Ethiopians or Indians. If Attorney General Jeff Session want to find people who fabricated their documents to come to US he should start with this group

I agree with you 100%. But the Biggest problem these People you mentioned have had with Kenya is the KAFFIR behavior of Kenyans these Neighbors go through as they seek Kenyan IDs, Passports, and other LAUNCH Pads to the US and other Out of Africa countries. NAMELY: Kenya Police DEMAND for BRIBES, Kenya Immigration DEMAND for the same (BRIBES), and Unnecessary DELAYS in Processing these Papers after they have BRIBED these Kenyan Tamaa IDIOTS. WmThe few SHEENANIGANS I just mentioned Drive NUTS Somalis, Ethiopians, and the Rest. So the Best they do is Forget Kenya!!! And I don't blame them. Nope!

We Kenyans like to be used and abused. The greedy Kenyans in Nyayo house are busy selling out their country to the cheapest bider. Somalis know this as well as the rest that Kenyan passport is better than theirs so they pay for it with bribes and everyone is happy. Chinese will soon become the next I don't know 44th tribe in Kenya. By the time we pay for all these exobitant SGR we will be their slaves.

Nobody forces Somalis, Ethiopians or Indians to bribe for Kenyan’s passports. Why can’t they use passports from their native countries to migrate to the USA? Explain.

Its because: 1. Their country(s) is not Stable and has No good relations with US. 2. And so when they come to Kenya as REFUGEES, the Kenya Police and Immigration Officials come to Know that they have FOREIGNERS for CASH Cows. And Voila! The The Greedy Bribe IMBIBERS!!!
