US Embassy in Kenya Downplays Claims of Ambassador Robert Godec's Exit

The United States Embassy in Kenya has refuted claims that Ambassador Robert Godec has been recalled.

There were reports that the diplomat had been recalled to his home country, but the embassy said Godec is still in office.

“Godec’s term did not end in July. He has been the US ambassador to Kenya since January 2013 and remains ambassador today,” US Embassy Spokesperson Fiona Evans told the Star.

Fiona further ruled out possibilities of Godec's exit in the coming days, noting that his stay in Kenya will be longer. She added that his term has not expired and continue serving in Kenya as the ambassador because “he is a career diplomat.”

“Ambassador Godec, like all US ambassadors, serves at the pleasure of the President of the United States,” she said.

“No one has been proposed to replace him as ambassador.”

Godec was appointed to the position in 2013 by retired US President Barrack Obama after being sworn in by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Raila-led National Super Alliance (NASA) has been the main critic of Godec's operations in Kenya, oftenly accusing him of taking government's position in different issues.

As an american citizen, I appreciate the good work tha ambassador is doing in kenya. He should ignore those who want him recalled back to usa. Nasa does not own kenya to dictate as to when he should leave. Mr ambassador, pls stay put
