90 Kenyans Dying from Cancer Every Day

90 Kenyans succumb to cancer on a daily basis, making it one of the leading killer diseases in the country.

Data from the Ministry of Health released last week by the World Health Organisation (WHO) shows that the disease kills 69 per cent of its victims — 32,900 deaths annually.

This figure is more than 10 times the total number of deaths caused by road crashes which stands at approximately 3,000 Kenyans every year. Cancer now ranks third on the list of top killer diseases after pneumonia and malaria.

About 47,887 new cancer cases (around 130 per day) are recorded every year, an increasing trend despite campaigns and efforts to win the war on cancer. There has been a near 20 per cent growth in cases diagnosed every year.

Cancer of the oesophagus leads among men and women with 4,380 cases recorded yearly while breast and cervical cancer lead at 5,985 and 5,250 cases each among women. In men, prostrate cancer leads at 2,864 cases.

Breast cancer is the leading killer, with 23 per cent of its victims passing on while cervical cancer claims 20.5 per cent of its victims, prostrate ( 11.3 per cent), oesophagus ( 8.6 per cent) and colon at 4.5 per cent.

National Cancer Institute CEO Alfred Karagu attributed the increased cases of cancer in the country to different factors, including smoking, alcohol, diet and lack of exercise.

“More people have turned to a westernised diet — eating foods that are high in sugar, fat and highly processed. This could be one of the reasons for increasing the cases,” he said.

Its the mercury laced sugar, Chinese fish, substandard cooking oil, plastic rice and fake fertilizer used for planting local foods.

That is the cause.

These deaths are more than that number.
Kenyans are being killed by their incompetent government.

Abandoning who we are has cosequences. As we copy the west, we Will inherit their weakedness and their diseases. As our leaders choose to become greedy, the Kenyan citizens will consume mercury in sugar, rotten fish, be made slaves, expired drugs and all manner of garbage from the west. Our leaders do not care about the citizenry, they care about amazing wealth. Let us welcome deaths in our population with both hands,as much as,we have welcomed uncontrolled greed and western unhealthy appetite. Until our leaders wake up, there is no space in between. Either our leaders care and lead or with their corruption , they will attend the funerals of their citizens in their expensive mansions, huge expensive cars and jets on a daily basis. Open boarders means a huge responsibility. If our leaders were not ready, when they opened our borders, it's time to close them. Its okay to accept mistakes. To our leaders, choose death for your citizens by continuing to copy the west, or halt that culture and go back to who we are and choose life. At least, we have something to go back to. As you go to the bank with your corrupt ways in pride,so will your citizens go to the grave with grief. May the real God protect Kenyans. God help Kenya!!

Stop calling foolishness, “ copying the West”

Drinking tea with mercury laced sugar and full of lead is not a “Copying the West”

Eating Chinese plastic rice and consuming sugar that is not fit for human consumption is not copying the West.

You are absolutely right, but had we taken our own path, grown our own sugar canes, rice and all other commodities from abroad, and not depend on the west we would not be consuming sugar with mercury and plastics rice from the chinese. And remember, our people consume these things due to the trust they have in the west, believing the west can never do us any harm.

We desperately need to adopt a culture of prevention. All women above a certain age should be getting an annual physical exam and screened for breast, cervical cancer etc Same thing with the men. What about the HPV vaccine? Best way to stop cervical cancer before it happens. Prevention messages need to be spread like never before. If they could be diagnosed earlier they have a much better chance of survival. Remember how HIV/AIDS epidemic took us by storm 2-3 decades ago? Then the war against it was declared and proper campaigns were established for its prevention and treatment and now it is not even a top 3 killer. It is no longer a death sentence. Same thing needs to happen with cancer. The cancer epidemic is here, and it will get worse before it gets better, unless it is taken very seriously and tackled at all levels.
