Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o Loses Bid to Lock Out Relatives from Sh200 Million Estate

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o Loses Bid to Lock Out Relatives from Sh200 Million Estate

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has lost bid to lock out his nephews and nieces from his father’s multi-million shillings estate.

In a ruling on Thursday, the High Court in Kisumu ordered the Governor to include them as beneficiaries of the Sh200 million estate left behind by their late grandfather Hesbon Shimei Nyong’o.

High Court Justice Tripsisa Cherere also revoked administrative letters appointing Governor Nyong'o and his sister Risper Nyagoy as the sole controllers of the estate. The court also appointed one of Nyong’o’s nephews, Kenneth Odhiambo Okuthe as a co-administrator of the estate.

The ruling comes after Okuthe and Geoffrey Omondi sued Prof. Nyong’o and his sister for locking out some family members from the list of beneficiaries of the estate. Shimei Nyong’o had not written a will by the time he passed away on November 10th, 2006.

The property under dispute includes 100-acre parcel of land in Miwani, another parcel and and flats along Jogoo Road in Nairobi as well as pieces of land in Manyatta, Tamu and Milimani estates in Kisumu.

The judge said she was satisfied that the petitioners were entitled to inherit part of their grandfather's multi-million shillings estate and that the grant that gave Governor Nyong’o and Dr Nyagoy control of the property was illegally obtained.

“I am satisfied that the grant was obtained by concealment of material facts and no-disclosure of the applicant’s interest and on the basis of untrue allegations,” said Justice Cherere.

The Governor had an interesting defense: The kids are not gratefully, he assisted them get government jobs. But the people of Kisumu love him, they have many times voted for him.
