More than 30 witnesses are set to testify against Migori Governor Okoth Obado in Rongo University student Sharon Otieno's murder case.
The prosecution has turned some of the persons arrested in connection with the murder of the 26-year-old student into witnesses, Daily Nation reports.
“So far, we have three suspects who have been charged in court and more than 30 witnesses,” a source privy to the case tells Daily Nation.
Obado was charged with the murder of Sharon and her seven-month-old unborn baby alongside his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and Migori County government clerk Caspal Obiero.
The publication says that former Kanyadoto Ward Representative Lawrence Mula and taxi driver Jack Gombe as well as journalist Barack Oduor are being treated as witnesses in the case.
Oduor was abducted together with Sharon from a hotel in Rongo town on September 3rd but managed to jump out of the kidnappers' car. Sharon was found murdered two days later.
Last Week, Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti said detectives are still looking for other suspects who are believed to be hiding in Uganda and Tanzania.
“What is I can say is that they won’t have any place to hide. We are on their trail,” he said.
Obado was detained for one month but was freed on a cash bail of Sh5 million and two sureties of similar amount. His co-accused were denied bail.
“I find that Governor Obado is entitled to bond. He should, therefore, deposit a cash bail of Sh5 million and provide two sureties of the same amount each,” Justice Jesse Lesiit ruled.
